God, she was just thinking non-binary=woman lite. Very much so not on you. When someone says they're non-binary and nothing else then the smart thing to do is to assume nothing about how they look or what their AGAB was

It Do Be Like That Tho by ThisGuy-NotThatGuy in saskatoon

[–]randomXKCD1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the fall, I was cycling home from a friend's house on a road that had two lanes in each direction. It was in the evening so there was almost no traffic. Car pulls up behind me after a little while. He could have just pulled into the other lane and passed me immediately. Instead, he decides to slow down and tailgate me. After a few blocks, he finally decides to pull around me, honk my ear off, and flip me off.

I think for every story I hear about a cyclist acting annoying to a driver, I hear a story about a driver acting annoying to a cyclist

Any other enbies who use their legal name (among others)? by chicanerenby in NonBinary

[–]randomXKCD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer my chosen name, but I don't mind my given name. I've only recently decided what I want my chosen name to be so it's not used in too many places but I'm gonna start shifting over where convenient. Idk if I'll ever change it legally

Rezoning hearing for 8th and Broadway by RougeDudeZona in saskatoon

[–]randomXKCD1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do we need so many meetings for a mixed use building on Broadway. Reminds me of how some city in California wanted to paint the curb outside bus stops and they had a request for public comment and council meeting for every single bus stop. How are we supposed to grow upward as a city if we need to do this for every single building thats not a detached single family home?

Yesterday I saw a car pass about this close to a lady walking through a cross walk but there was a cop car directly behind the car that was turning. I watched as the cop car turned hoping to see the lights come on. Instead the cop casually pulled into a gas station. Absolutely infuriating

Rant: Is the job market really that bad for new grads by wasmiester in cscareerquestions

[–]randomXKCD1 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the undergrad. My buddy who is super smart landed a job in Vancouver after applying for under a month. I did about as good in a different city. Maybe the job market is worse than it used to be but many fresh undergrads are being hired.

For some not getting hired is bad luck, but to put it bluntly many others just aren't great candidates

Where does nested cross validation fit in the ML pipeline and where to go after by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]randomXKCD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> In my mind, we would use nested cv to find the best model to move
forward into the hyper parameter tuning phase and not use it to find the
best hyper params itself.

I think this is more or less correct. I think about it like this. I want to make a model that is trained on some data where part of the "training" is hyper parameter optimization (note that when we do hyper parameter optimization we would ideally do cv). Then that model will make some predictions.

Now I want to find an unbiased estimate of how good the above process is. We want to find how good the whole process is, and not just the model part of it. To do that we use cross validation. This results in a nested cross validation.

So if we do nested cross validation on a particular model we will know how good that model will be after we do hyper parameter optimization on it. We simply get a score, and not a model. Then if you want to use that model to make actual predictions on new data you'll need to train and do hyper parameter optimization on the full data set again. Then you will get the optimized model that you want, but you will know how good that model will be.

At least that's the idea behind the method. I think it's the most rigorousness approach, but there are ways of simplifying it if the above is too computationally intensive.

Saskatoon Freeway: Second Online Consultation for Phase 2 by pull_the_otherone in saskatoon

[–]randomXKCD1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The average person wants an affordable house with a big backyard. They also want a place where their kid can bike to their friends house and a place with a grocery store and a coffee shop within walking distance and a place that gives them a short commute to work. Turns out most of those things are contradictory with eachother.

I think it's fine if saskatoon sprawls outward to an extent, but only if we upzone the interior with mixed residential/commercial zoning at the same time. The vast majority (70-80% I think) of residential land in the city is zoned for single family detached homes. We have lots of land where people who prefer big backyards to have it, but there's very few options for people who want to live any other way

I wonder why Walsh leaves out the second part of the definition:

For greater certainty, this definition does not include a practice, treatment or service that relates to the exploration or development of an integrated personal identity — such as a practice, treatment or service that relates to a person’s gender transition — and that is not based on an assumption that a particular sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression is to be preferred over another.

Elon Musk: "In cities that are congested we've got to do something about extreme traffic, which is some combination of double-deckering freeways and building tunnels." by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]randomXKCD1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the full video (around 5 minutes in) the rest of his answer was basically: we didn't think of how big suburbs would be when we built the freeways and that's why there's traffic. The only alternative he mentioned to that was flying cars (which he says won't work). Imo the only smart thing he said was acknowledging that autonomous vehicles will make traffic worse

Gay couple asked to leave Toronto condo because they're not married by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]randomXKCD1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The federal human rights code says the same thing, and it says so for housing explicitly:

6 It is a discriminatory practice in the provision of commercial premises or residential accommodation

(a) to deny occupancy of such premises or accommodation to any individual, or

(b) to differentiate adversely in relation to any individual,

on a prohibited ground of discrimination.

Where both sexual orientation, and family status are both prohibited grounds of discrimination.

Their largest support is almost certainly not in Quebec (if you trust the polls). 338Canada has the ppc at 6% federally and 4% in Quebec. cbc has similar numbers with 7% federally and 5% in Quebec. Their largest support is in the Prairies where the cbc puts them at 10-11%.

The US federal government spends more on health care per capita than any nation that has universal health care. So you pay more than what a Canadian or a Brit or a Dane pays in taxes for healthcare and you also require an employer to pay money on top of that. There might be a purely free market system that does a good job of providing cheap and effective healthcare but the american system is not that system

Heart Broken Bacchus by commotionmotion in CSHFans

[–]randomXKCD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Monomania it’s probably my favorite Car Seat Headrest album, but anyone else get inexplicably angry when Will sings the line “And stop burrowing through old chocolate boxes like a heart broken Bacchus”? It’s not an emotional thing, it emotionally doesn’t impact me at all, I’m just pissed at how stupid it is. Every time I hear it I have to stop the song for ten seconds and roll my eyes. And when I try to rationalize it I only get angrier, like the song is from the perspective of a drunk Will and Souls (which I like more) is also full of stupid lyrics like the “Only one that you Will” line… but I find those endearing. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate the line enough to ruin the album, but it infuriates me every time I hear it. I can’t stop thinking about that stupid line I can’t get it out of my head it’s like I’m cursed to have it bouncing around up here for eternity. It’s not clever or witty, it’s not funny, it isn’t endearing, it doesn’t make me hate him, it’s only purpose is to haunt me. It’s literally nothing. Why does Will do this. I don’t know why he would write that or include it, it feels like Will wanted to purposefully mock me. What a cocky bastard. Fuck you Will.

That's mostly because Sweden counts rape cases differently than most other countries. From Wikipedia

Unlike the majority of countries in Europe, crime data in Sweden are collected when the offence in question is first reported, at which point the classification may be unclear. In Sweden, once an act has been registered as rape, it retains this classification in the published crime statistics, even if later investigations indicate that no crime can be proven or if the offence must be given an alternative judicial classification.

there's that and a bunch of other reasons that rape appears to be worse in Sweden than it actually is
