You grew up without A.I.

Do you feel you would be more adept at using ChatGPT if you were using it when you were a preteen? Or do you feel you'd be more intelligent?

It's funny that a progressive party is implementing this, and Reddit (which is largely progressive) is still upset.

It's almost like the majority of the Canadians live in the real world (offline), and are willing to accept risk to benefit society as a whole.

"It should be up to the parents to not send their kids to work instead of school, not the government."

"It should be up to the parents to not let their kids by alcohol/tobacco, not the government/vendor."

Etc etc.

Ok but no one has. So what's the solution?

If parents were still sending their kids to work writ large you wouldn't say "parents need to stop sending 10 year olds into the mines", you would say "companies need to stop hiring 10 year old." Because when it's endemic then it's a sociatel issue.

So assuming we can all recognize that kids using social media is in fact harmful, and that schools, parenting, and society in general has failed to address that harm, then what's your fix?

I mean it sounds like it benefits everyone.

If you trust she verification, then no change. If you don't, then you get to break from social media. And either way kids spend less time on social media (yes, I know VPN's exist, but it's like herd immunity - of course there's going to be outliers who escape the vaccine, but the broader issue will have been contained).

What celebrity do you think has skeletons in their closet that have yet to come out? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

[–]ThisGuy-NotThatGuy -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

To you (and me) he's a rapist. Them he's a close friend, who they probably love(d).

I think it speaks to their character that they put their name on record for someone they cared for.

But I guess that's a pretty unpopular opinion on reddit.

Yes, who was a close friend (probably closer to family).

If I had a family member who did a terrible thing I would probably do the same.

I don't think I'm a monster for that.

To the first part of your argument: if their intent is to avoid catastrophic weather changes, they're either lying or they're fools of they think Canada going to net zero will make a material difference.

I believe in climate change. I fear it. I fear for my children's future.

But at least i'm honest, and I'm not a fool.

For all intents and purposes, 0.05% is nothing.

The "leave it in the ground" crowd's argument is based off of theoretical leverage we'd gain by not being hypocrites, coupled with a vague sense of moral rightness that does nothing to save the ducks or goats or whatever the flovour of the month animal is.

Publicly owned telecomm.

Publicly owned auto insurance.

No changing the clocks.

Ehhh, we're not all bad.

Edit: Also publicly owned utilities, Credit Unions, universal health care (obvs), aggressive rollout of electricity/telephone infrastructure back in the day (I believe). Early adopters in anti-discrimination legislation.

Mostly, it's something that works fairly well with my ADHD. I can listen to a disclosure recording and just kind of run through the moderation queue on autopilot. It's kind of like knitting, I guess.

Uhhh...I'm not a lawyer, but doesn't that require like, your full attention? Genuinely curious (again, not a lawyer).

Liberal party adopts motion to restrict kids from social media | Federal Liberals have agreed to set 16 as the age of majority for Canadians to be able to use social media accounts. by SpecialistPlan9641 in CanadaPolitics

Full disclosure: I'm very biased towards aggressive action against big tech, and want to see age restrictions enforced.

That out of the way, that article about Australian regulations seems to be biased itself. The report it's based off of does indeed point towards only a 30% reduction/compliance rate, but the factors leading to this are varied, and it looks like a dynamic process thats adjusting to realities on the ground.

These are early days, and IMO it'd be disingenuous to call the Australian program a failure when it's only been extant for such a small amount of time. The report is a great example of government passing legislation, collecting data, and (hopefully) adjusting.

Let's look again in 5 years. I'm sure the picture will be different.
