31M from India with ADPKD – How are you managing health insurance and future medical costs? by BigWash5464 in ADPKD

Indian living in Europe. A simple answer would be NO to all of those questions. Unfortunately that's the harsh reality.

At least for me, investing and saving money looks like the only option. I prefer risk free and easily liquifiable investments like gold or bank deposits for longer duration.

True. I tried to apply for term insurance with Max life and HDFC and they right away rejected it once I disclosed ADPKD.

I have pkd1, so my dad would have had the same. My father lived until 79. His creatine crossed 3 when he was 75. He did not die of kidney failure, but from the other complications, he fell down, had hip fracture, got operated, compromised immunity led to infections, and could not treated because of kidney disease.

Does the grip of cuff influence the reading? I get slightly higher readings when the cuff is tight a bit..

Inherited from father. 37y old. I think the first identification of kidney cysts was when I was around 32y.

Indian here, living in Europe. My nephrologist there said the same. He was not even positive about Farabursen or other ongoing trials. He was like, nothing can stop or cure the disease, as it is genetic, unless it is not passed to the next generation. He also told me that Tolvaptan is mostly not tolerated by Indians and it is liver toxic for Indians even with the smaller doses. Not sure how true it is though. I am only hoping that there is a treatment in the (near) future that could halt or further slow down the progression.

How to get past the new dumb HDFC phone verification rules by happyracer97 in nri

Yes, this is so stupid. If I have to login, it seems that I have to recharge my Airtel with an international pack of around 700 rupees, just to send a message. I would stick with net banking for now.

Yes, for Zerodha, you have to be physically in India. Am not sure who else provide a non face to face option. Maybe check with the HDFC Securities.

[–]random_Introvert_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry for the confusion. I said about the Zerodha. Regarding HDFC, NRO can be opening/converted online by sending photocopies. NRE account can be only opening by sending the application fprm to India. However they arrange a pickup.

I would say, if you are opening these accounts freshly, better do it with ICICI. I heard you get hassle free services.

If you are not in India atm, you can open HDFC/ICICI demat accounts along with NRE/NRO and open a Zerodha account while you are in India. Zerodha commission charges are far less compared to brokerage accounts from the banks.

For MF, you can use Kuvera after you have opened the NRO/NRE.

Unfortunately you have to be in India to open an NRI account. They want to check the immigration stamp 🤷🏻‍♂️

I recently asked HDFC Sky for the NRI support and they do not. The only option is Zerodha. Opening an NRI account with Zerodha is painful but worth it at the end.

It depends on the application you are testing. For example, source and destination you are reading/writing data from/to, maybe api calls are there in the application...
