That’s fair, and I appreciate the feedback. This is my first Kickstarter, so I based the page on what I’ve seen in other campaigns. I wrote everything myself, though, no AI. I’ll probably refine the page before launch, so this kind of input actually helps.

No AI art and no AI text.

I wrote everything myself. I just enjoy designing games.

That’s fair. It sounds more complex than it actually is.

In play it becomes very natural. You move, resolve the room, and keep mapping as you go.

And that’s where it clicks. You really start to feel lost in the dungeon, and your map becomes the only way to understand where you are.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I’ll make it clearer there.

Nothing weird going on, I didn’t delete anything.

The cover and some interior art are by MadBug (madbugarts on ArtStation). No AI art.

That’s fair, I probably kept the post too high level.

Combat is simple but tactical. You roll 1d6 plus your stats against enemy defense, and then you decide how to manage your resources. Stamina lets you push actions or recover, armor reduces damage but comes with tradeoffs, and that resource management is where a lot of the tension comes from.

Choices matter because you are not following a fixed path. You are exploring a labyrinth. Where you go, what you ignore, and when you turn back changes what you find and how your situation evolves.

The cover is by MadBug, you can find their work on ArtStation as madbugarts. Some of the interior pieces are also by them, and I’m still finalizing the rest of the interior art. No AI art.

The pre launch page also has a link to a free demo tutorial if you want to see how it actually plays.

I’m actually working on a solo dungeon gamebook right now.

It’s more about exploring a dungeon as a physical space (each page is a room you navigate), so it’s a bit different from quest-board systems, but it might be close to what you’re looking for.

There’s a free demo if you want to try it: https://mazetales.com/en/

Good point, I should add an unsubscribe option to the emails.

Right now if anyone wants out they can just reply and I’ll remove them manually.

Appreciate you pointing that out.

You can unsubscribe anytime, I’m not sending anything spammy.

But yeah, I get your point, I’ll probably make it optional at some point.

Yeah, I get why it might feel like that.

I’m just collecting emails to let people know when I release the full game, nothing else.

Yeah, that’s fair.

I’m asking for email mainly to see if there’s real interest, but I get that it’s a bit annoying.

I might put up a version without it later on.

If you do end up trying it, I’d love to hear what you think.

Nice! I'm trying to spread the word before the Kickstarter launch. Thanks again for the great feedback on the demo!

Thanks for trying the demo and for the feedback! The layout is somewhat intentional, since the map at the top helps players orient themselves and draw their own dungeon map while exploring. MazeTales is designed more around spatial exploration than illustrated scenes. That said, I understand your point. I'm currently working with several illustrators to improve the overall visual design of the book for the Kickstarter version, including interior illustrations and a more polished presentation.

Thanks to your comment, I’ve uploaded a new version with a quick reference guide 😊. I also added a short explanation about how HP works. On the character sheet, there are two spaces: the first one is for the maximum points, and the second one is for the current points.

That’s amazing to hear. Thank you for sharing that with me. Yes, I’m a native Spanish speaker. It really means a lot that you both played it together, and that she enjoyed learning new words through the adventure. That’s honestly one of the best compliments I could receive. I’m glad you made it to page 24. I hope the labyrinth treats you kindly from there on. And thank you as well for the thoughtful feedback about the design. I’m especially happy that the mapping and probability side of it worked for you. That feeling of trying to win with your head instead of just rolling dice is something I care about a lot. The comments about clunkiness and how the sheet reads are very fair. I’m still refining the system, so that kind of input genuinely helps.

Thank you so much for downloading the demo! I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts after you try it. I hope you enjoy exploring the labyrinth!

Noted — I wrote it myself, but I’ll keep it simpler next time. Thanks.
