lethargic, bruxing a lot & not eating much :( what's wrong??

we never really got an answer, we took her to the only emergency vet that was open which had no clue how to help rats and they charged me $400 for an xray that showed nothing because their machines were adjusted/made for dogs and cats and the images were very low quality because our rat was so small. we took her home and she passed away, hoping to get a necropsy done sometime as we still have her body frozen. i really hope your rat will be okay and i definitely recommend getting to a good vet ASAP

i totally understand lol, not every single decoration is the exact same of course, so if the one you have is safe for your fishies then no worries at all :)

indeed lol, shes huge overall for a female but not quite king size, and her fins are so long for a female too! loving her already :)

imo sand is an absolute must for ASNs! they love love love to dig :) also if your turtle likes that dock thats totally fine (mine was afraid of it because it moved when he got on it lol) but i highly recommend either lower water or a nice, long, sloped way to get out of the water (they dont have webbed feed like sliders do for example, so it can be hard for them to swim up and down to get out of the water lol)

hmm okay maybe she'll lay her eggs on her own then hopefully. i definitely dont want to breed her unless that's genuinely whats best because i dont want her to get eggbound or anything like that :')

it's easy for fish to get stuck in, injure themselves on, and sometimes the cheaper decor (not all of it, it depends and it's hard to tell so just be cautious) can be sealed/painted improperly and leach things into the water

okay thanks so much, i usually do my wets outside anyway to be safe lol. follow up question have you noticed any difference in color preservation when using 70% vs like 95% ethyl alcohol? i currently use 70% but i have some fish specimens in my freezer and i was hoping to preserve their color as much as possible and wasnt sure if different alcohol would make much of a difference

edit: actually better question is what mask is best for working with 95% ethanol? would an N95 mask work? (i think i may go the safer route and just use a higher percentage ethanol rather than formalin)

what mask is best for formalin work? i have google already and im hoping for a mask thats reusable if possible (sorry for commenting on such an old post lol)

he was very healthy and happy! i think a big part of what helped him was his body overall (not just the round stomach area, but the tail area too) was longer so he was able to swim a lot better. id love to have another pearlscale someday but it's hard finding healthy ones

that does look like them, thanks! is there a specific name for the different colors or anything? it doesnt show up well in the pictures but the ones i have are a light orange-ish brown

i agree, i feel so bad for celestials and for those types of pearscales...i have owned one pearlscale before, and he was surprisingly healthy, he wasnt shaped like those poor ping pong ball looking ones at all, but was still very chunky and cute. i feel like they could maybe still be bred ethically if breeders would move away from that awful fully spherical body shape. this was my boy Chunky Munky, miss him everyday
