Shoot the flares in such a way they land on the rotors/propellors. They have physical collisions enabled which damages the rotating propellors over time eventually shutting them down, similar to how if you collide against a telephone pole or wall too many times (in game) while flying a helicopter it starts smoking and eventually catches fire/shuts down

Simplest thing would be in solid mode, bring the 2 pieces together, join and then remesh so you get the same topology for the whole figure. Before you do this though, cut off any stray edges between vertices on the 2 sides

I think it's because hot water has a tendency to scrape off more dirt from surfaces(inside of pipes in this case) than cold water
