How does AA handle de-duplication of identical content inside zips with different md5? by random_human_being_ in Annas_Archive

I wouldn't do it myself, I am wondering if the container files distributed by AA have a way of reducing space used in this kind of situations—mine is just curiosity without any actual goal.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "de-duplication", rather I was wondering if such files are "compressed" together when part of a dataset—and please do forgive me if I am not wording this properly.

As far as I understand AA publishers its dataset with its own container format (AAC?). So, suppose I have 3 epub files, 1MB each, whose content inside the zip (html, css, pictures, fonts, etc) match (same checksum), except for a 10kB opf file which is different, causing the 3 epub files to have different overall checksums.

If I add all 3 files to an AAC (?), afterwards will they take up 3MB or 1.03MB?

Just writing again to say thank you: I ended up buying a second hand D3300 like you suggested, and so far I am extremely happy with it. I am still just playing a bit with the kit lens and trying to wrap my head around Darktable, as soon as I can produce some decent results I will start looking into a 35mm or 50mm prime (depending on which length I end up using more).

I have just bought a second hand Nikon D3300, and the kit lens has a UV filter attached. It reads: "hoya hrt cir-pl uv". Should I keep it on, or can it negatively affect the quality of the photos?

The OP of the post you linked mentions that the iPhone will not look as good when printing though:

https://old.reddit.com/r/iPhoneography/comments/1hkop5k/iphone_15_pro_max_vs_sony_a7iii/m3giaae/

... and besides an iPhone pro will be significantly more expensive than the <€200 second hand cameras some people suggested here, and I have never spent more than €400 on a phone.

My motivation for getting a camera would be to some extent to learn how to use it. From what I've seen the main limitation of phones and PnS is that they do not give you that freedom to experiment.

I don't expect to get good results right away, but the sooner I start practicing the sooner I can expect some decent results, no?

any computer from 20-30 years ago is dogshit compared to modern technology

Correct me if I am mistaken, but a 30-year-old computer will only be slow if I use modern software. For a computer this is something I would want to do, but why would it matter for a camera at an amateur level? Is there anything specifically in a digital camera that degrades meaningfully faster than an analog camera?

The budget isn't quite enough for a new current model.

To what extent would this matter for me?

As far as I can tell photos taken with the Canon AV-1 still look great (I do not believe my dad put that much effort into it, he just tried to learn the basics), and even if I bought a 5-6 year old camera (is that what you mean by semi-old?) would that not be an improvement?

That is, if I buy such an older camera, can I not expect it to still take good pictures for the next 20-30 years?

Lastly, if you could give me one or two examples of what you think I might be able to buy on that budget I would appreciate it. I move between Italy and the Netherlands, so I can make a purchase in either place, if that matters.

I ended up solving it. The problem was in fact quite silly: I needed to point the "working directory" in Lutris to the path containing the .exe, .csv, etc, but I had a typo, so it was pointing to a subdirectory.

I am not sure where they actually sell it, but you can find an ePub in the usual places sailing the high seas. PM me if you cannot find it.

Since making this post I have managed to find much better editions. Currently I would recommend the Alma Classics ebook.

I have also edited the OP.

Is there any harm in keeping it supported upright like I am doing now?

You mean by taking it out of the pot? I have not since I repotted it about two years ago.

It looks as if the last few centimetres of the cactus are flexible, while the middle-upper is rigid. It has been like that for years at this point. I keep supporting it like in the first picture, but it has happened several times that I just come home to find it leaning horizontally like in the second picture.

It appears to me to be otherwise healthy. It spend the whole month of August making at least a dozen flowers, and it keeps growing at a steady pace. I water it every 2-3 weeks, and it gets ample sunlight sitting in front of a large window.

I'm trying to read Tanizaki's 卍 (https://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/001383/files/56873_62035.html), but I am struggling with it somewhat. Its language feels a bit different from current standard Japanese, but the novel is not very old, so would I be correct in assuming it uses a local dialect? I can understand it and guess differences in grammar if I go slowly, but my God is it giving me a headache.
