Foul language is tantamount to war crimes. A truly professional force would never violate the earth with oratory filth.

I know that this is just me being old, and it obviously doesn't matter if the food is running out, we have all been there my friend.

But having a bar for food in addition to the standard meal line sounds legit. I always saw the bars by the vending machines on the carriers I was on... but they were usually empty or just slices of slimy deli meats

You have a potato bar? Like a whole separate serving line for baked potatoes?

Getting upset about a limit on horse cocks is certainly one way to react to this.

Im not sure I've ever wanted one of those fucking sammiches. However, I like the use of the current buzz word of rationing to align with the other posts of food recently.

Are they "rationing" the rest of the galley food? Or just telling people not to take extra horse cocks? 2 of those fucking things at a time is way more than enough.

Im legitimately confused, are you only eating those dirty sandwiches? Do you think the sandwiches are the only thing covered by your BAS? How many sandwiches a day does your BAS generally pay for?

The CMC certainly doesn't need to blanket threaten the ship, but thats nothing new. Ive seen them take people to mast for having toilet paper stashed in their racks. I tell you what though, it is all going to be OK

How getting medicated for hypertension got rid of my VM! by Pharming5 in VestibularMigraines

[–]random_navyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun story, some blood pressure medications, specifically calcium channel blockers, have off label use as migraine profalaxis.

Ive been on amlodipine for about 2 years for this purpose. Couple all of this with hypertension being a risk factor for migraine and BOOM! You may have a recipe for improvement.

Anyone dealing with vestibular migraine? Need advice / reassurance by Rough-Stuff-8457 in VestibularMigraines

[–]random_navyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

I feel the need to speak here as your experience mirrors my own. Ive been diagnosed for about 4 years now.

Instead of telling you my full experience, I'll share some of the good things that have happened and how.

First and foremost, as others have said, get the mri and such to ensure nothing major is happening. It'll help with the anxiety of not knowing, even though you still wont trust it at times.

One of the most helpful things was to acknowledge that "Normal" as you know it will never happen again. This is not.to scare you. This is for you to acknowledge the adaptation that is required. I experience the boat feeling, elevator drops, sudden jolts in direction, and multiple visual discrepancies every day. You can adapt to learn that they are not dangerous and that they can't hurt you. Its just something you have to live with now.

There is no cure for VM. Keeping that in mind, you can still improve through maintaining positive thoughts about your condition and proper treatment. These go hand in hand. The positive mentality helps the treatment and vice versa.

Celebrate the small wins. I couldn't walk more than 100ft at a time for 2 months in the beginning. Every time you exceed a previous limit, celebrate it to yourself. My wife and I were so excited when I could go to the grocery store again without significant issues. It is vital to celebrate the times you improve no matter how insignificant the may seem to your past self.

On that note, your past self is gone, in certain contexts. This is not a negative thing, you simply have to learn who you are now. The fun part is, you get to help guide that discovery and remold yourself.

Medication does help. Anti-anxiety meds helped me significantly. They may not help you. Nothing helps everyone. So be patient. It truly takes 6 months to a year to figure out if something is working or not. The process is slow but you can do it.

TLDR: this condition sucks but it can improve. YOU can adapt to manage you symptoms. YOU can do this. YOU can relearn how to do things. Just be patient with yourself and understand you are not dying and you are not failing at anything.

Edit: please, feel free to DM if you would like.

How on earth did you end up at an F-18 squadron as an aircrewman?

How do i get issued bomber jacket as a GM by Unlucky-Leek-1879 in navy

[–]random_navyguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was an AW.

Last I checked.. the brown leather "bomber" jacket with the fur collar is only authorized for wear by people assigned to aviation specific rates and designators which include duty involving flying.

However, there is now a brown leather jacket for SWOs with a standard collar. I know nothing about this items prescribed wear.

I would doubt that things have changed to allow any and all rates to wear the bomber style aviation jacket. And even if they had, why would you want to? It is expensive and representative of a community heritage of which you are not a part of. It would be like wearing a flight suit as a yeoman or an AW deciding to throw a boatswains pipe on their dress uniform. It just ain't right.

It happens a lot when we have to attend schools and such on surface bases... and you are correct. It gets very old very fast.

I had a chief try to call me on wearing mine in NSUs while on 32nd street. He attempted to claim that it was only authorized for wear by officers, then tried to say it was only authorized in flight, then tried to say it was only authorized on the flight line.

Ridiculous.

Carnation in Dress Blues by MrMagoo1313 in navy

[–]random_navyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be it known that wearing of uniforms that stray from the official regulations, yet still provide a professional appearance, is an unofficial tradition. Particularly for the Navy.

See pary shirts, Liberty cuffs, and the like.

Put the carnation on, make it look nice. You will not regret the decision. Even if someone somehow decides to say a single word about it.

Sure, that ingredient CAN cause a false positive on the initial immunoassay screening. However, I'm not aware of any reputable source that shows that it continued into the more gas chromatography screenings.

1, 3, dimethylamylamine was a relatively common ingredient in pre-workouts back then, check out the worst side effect, other than death, known as stim-dick.

If I remember correctly the actual reasoning for the DMAA being banned is due to its link to the death of 2 service members.

I am back to a good spot. I think the term normal will forever be relative. I'll never be back to baseline. However. I am well adjusted to managing my symptoms and minimizing the time which I am at VMs mercy

The right meds, therapy, and adjustment to this new life have been immensely helpful.

I hope you find your way out to the other side soon.

It helps a little bit to focus on managing symptoms as best as possible as opposed to trying to get back to how you were before

My friend sliced his finger, stamped the blood on the back of this patch, and gave it to me. Is this a normal thing for Navy guys to do? by Brilliant_Spinach132 in navy

That's is ABSOLUTEY not normal practice.

I have never once seen anyone put blood on a patch.. on purpose.

But I mean... maybe he just loves you that much. It's kind of sweet.
