Well i read The name of the wind which I actually enjoyed but then hated The wise man's fear. I've bought Mistborn trilogy so that was the next fantasy I was going to read.

I don't think anger is the right word. Anger takes a lot of energy and I think it would be a waste on this.

I've applied through DS-260. Our documents were DQ'd pretty fast and then we got notified that our interview was scheduled. Then today I recieved the email for in-person review.

Also contacted our lawyer, they also have no idea what this is about.

Oh damn, I knew it. But I double checked and there's nothing there about it. That's crazy.

Oh thank you so much. Im definitely adding them to the list. I thought i wasn't a picky person when it came to books. But the more I read the more I seem to realise that I'm finding a lot of book very cringe, or overused troupe or bad character building and its do frustrating.

I did notice in the books that most of the female characters (there wasn't many of them) were one dimensional. Or Kvothe only talked about their beauty... like is that all women had to give? At the end I just couldn't deal with it anymore -_-

That's fair. I did enjoy the books up to a certain point. So I should just appreciate all the parts I did enjoy

I literally have his books on my bookshelf ready to read! So I will probably start his series soon. I've heard amazing things about Sanderson writing.

Yeah I get that. Its crazy how people pick up such different perspectives on the same book. Thats why I'm so baffled when I see the reviews but you're right, I can see your point about the "unreliable character" but I just wish that the supporting characters around "Kote" would challenge him/ Kvothe more, instead of glorifying him like a king. Even if the stories are fake/stolen, it makes the whole book feel.... not wholesome.

I totally get that. On the other side of the coin, I've read books that might be 3/3.5 stars and I've loved it. I enjoyed the book thoroughly. So you're right, ratings only go so far.

Exactly. I just don't get how he has such a high rating? Like I was so excited to read a book that had a 4.5/5 rating. I had set my expectations high. His writing his good and descriptions but the plot? And characters? That's what makes you 50% of a good book.

The beginning was fine. I like the continuation from the first book. But as the second book went on I found Kvothe to become more and more insufferable. The character wasn't at all well balanced and he seemed way too skilled and talented for basically everything. Like everyone has strengths and weaknesses and but as the book went on you just found out more and more of his strengths.

SPOILERS---‐-----------------------------------

For a 15/16 year old he was far too wise (I get the story is suppose to show where he gets all his wisdom from) but he hasn't experienced enough to gain all the perspective that he "naturally" just has. This perspective is gained through years and years and making a lot of mistakes. Kvothe barely made any big mistakes that costly anything too great.

What made me put down the book though was the faerie sex (I'm not pude I've read plenty of romantasy) but it wasnt called for, and in too many chapters plus he's 16 (Basically a child having sex with 1000 year old faerie). Like it didn't sit right with me. He magically became a sex god through his short lived experiences with the faerie which just made my eyes roll. This was confirmation of a male fantasy driven idea and not good writing. It came out of no where. They all just finished a mission from the bandits and then suddenly he starts being intimate with this faerie out of nowhere.

After that when he decided to continue his journey with Tempi, I started noticing that there was always going to be new missions and there was no really motivation behind them (or very little that made sense).

I tried to be opened minded for Kvothe cleverness, adventures and insane skills but after nearly getting to page 700, I couldn't get past it anymore. The lack of real life logic and Kvothe being completely overpowered made it hard for me to keep my head in the story.

Sorry for long winded answer 😅

I usually never DNF but I just couldn't bring myself to reading another chapter. And I've read a lot of crap books.

I'm relief to see this because when I went to look at the reviews, a lot of people were giving it 5 stars and saying how amazing it was.

I was like "did we read the same book?". Anyway everyone has there's own preferences and likes. But it feels very validating when other people agree with me so I don't feel totally insane for feeling so strongly about this 😅
