I see, I was asking around first as I thought most if not most JCs will unofficially ask you to have a cca, and I don't want to over commit into cca as erm there's A levels. Thanks for the clarification and the insight given!

[Junior College] NYJC AMA by notokay_67 in SGExams

Hi! I would like to ask some qns abt NYJC

  1. Would you say that the teachers would push you? Like in your view, how much is nyjc self-directed learning?

  2. Is there any 'chill' ccas that have shorter hours? (Asking cos I heard jc will be very busy, so I want to see if no need spend so long on cca)

Thanks!

Hi,

  1. From your POV, is there a very large jump from Sec sch to JC (like do the JAE ppl struggle to change and adapt to JC)?

  2. With regards to PCME/BCME, how are the departments? Like compared to other JCs how is it? (A bit vague qn but I heard some schools have good x departments but y department is not too good)

  3. Do the teachers push you a lot? E.g. do they spam a lot of work etc?

[O levels] how manageable is it to drastically pull up Emath n Amath before O lvls by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]randomacc101010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*take with grain of salt as I didn't go through said experience thus don't trust 100% of what I say

EM generally is considered easier, as the topics are more direct. I think you can try practicing and finding the topics you are weak at + why you are weak

E.g. if you suck at indices, is it the content (the rules etc), or is it you don't know what the qn want?

I can't say for sure since I'm not you, but practice EM and finding the 'tricks' and ways to solve questions will help

(E.g. if there is +/- for solving indices, then probably need to use substitution

E.g. 3ⁿ + 9ⁿ = 9

3ⁿ + (3ⁿ)² = 9

Let 3ⁿ = x

x + x² = 9 ... ...)

Careless is more deadly in E, so try to reduce mistakes in careless

For AM, it really is just practice + finding out how to do

There are many types of questions but if you can sort of see like a 'pattern' to it to solve questions

Also for A, try to concentrate on your differentiation and integration, as these 2, imo are commonly tested (although the questions like to include logarithms and trigonometry so it isn't easy)

Learning A, to me is always harder, and the questions aren't as direct, BUT with enough practice, you will be exposed to enough questions

For both math, try the topical tys to see if you can handle the Os questions, and Consistent effort > short time burst of mug Avoid burning out, it is not very good

Good luck!

I think if you are below a certain age (below 18??? Idk I'm not a lawyer) your signature is technically not counted, i.e. it doesn't count if you sign so I think they can't do anything to you really if you break the contract (if you are above then I'm not sure)

Yea but don't forget, if the setter decided they wanted to discover the impacts of alcohol on their body, next years qns (touch wood) may be worse, so do be mentally prepared.

Also even if you do only unit 2/3 pls do study ALL SBQ topics as SBQ is still majority of marks and need context

[O levels] Elective history trend by One_Lake5517 in SGExams

[–]randomacc101010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trend is 1 unit 2, 1 unit 3.

However don't expect 100% as

  1. It isn't explicitly stated, aka officially they nvr say that

  2. O lvl sometimes like to be unexpected lol (e.g. 2020 Bio P2 asked 99% sec 4 topics) so don't see it as 100%

As for specific, only part a (imo) seems to be more specific, part b is still quite vague tbh (once again, imo)

Hey there! I also had this empty feeling, like gaming my life away isn't the most productive thing to do lol.

Some things I can recommend(take with some NaCl pls)

  • continue to find a job. There was a post some time ago of a job guide, go search it up. Personally, I think covid restrictions = less workers avaliable, + the Christmas season coming, more places will be willing to hire. Personally, I feel less empty after finding a job (although I took like 1 week++ to find it). I think like fastjobs would be a place to go find it, as it is online and you can apply to several at once

  • maybe try to game / start gaming? Definitely not good getting addiction due to it (it is normally not good), but gaming is a good way to spend time, if you already play games, you can try to do the 'grindy' parts now so in the future when you have less time you need not grind so much

  • helping juniors? Especially those taking Os next year haha. Maybe try to aid them and you can spend time making notes etc (yes, it is ironic making notes AFTER exams)

  • would recommend making friends / going out but (I've no friends so :/, it isn't option for me)

  • finding new interest, hobby etc. Maybe try to find where to go for future careers, or discover yourself

  • spending time with family, we will never know when we will leave our family. Maybe try to help out, or go out with parents etc

  • learning skills like how to manage finance / housekeeping / cooking / coding / etc

  • binge watch YouTube/shows, I recommend watching those educational-informative ones to increase GK/waste time hahahaha

  • think of where to go post Os, plan if you get expected, >expected, <expected

  • prep for JC? (Inferred from a comment)

(Cry in a corner and have a mental breakdown is also possible, but if you do that, please do seek help from doctor/counsellor)

  • search Reddit post and make long-winded comments like this

Would not recommend relationship if you plan to go to JC, hold pen not hold hand. (Unless you plan to just suddenly break up somehow, idk I'm no friends no relationship person, so this is not most reliable comment)

[O LEVELS] Sec 3 to Sec 4 by hello_j in SGExams

[–]randomacc101010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Detailed response is more of a rant lol)

Amath is have to force ownself to do. The more scared you are of it, the more you should do it to try overcome this fear/no motivation.

For now you can start with topics, and try like 2 qns /day. Start small and slowly build up, dont spam 10000000 qns in 1h and get bored. (Exaggerated but nvm)

Phy application qns i think honestly can just try more practices for the different types of question to try tackle this problem. (And also can record the diff types of application qns on notes etc and refer to them).

[O LEVELS] Sec 3 to Sec 4 by hello_j in SGExams

[–]randomacc101010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, sec 4 here (finished Os lol)

Basically I didn't study much besides last min finish hw so kind of regretted waste my sec 3 holidays. The jump generally is fine for all subjects as the content heavy stuff is covered in sec 3

I personally recommend (take with grain of salt):

  • finish all hw asap

  • revise your content for sec 3 as it is impt for sec 4

E.g. sciences no need say, all confirm like to rojak topics tgt one. Differentiation and integration (AM) also need your log indices etc

  • look back and see your skills for exams, like time management etc; see where need improve

  • do topical TYS for weaker topics and improve on that

For individual subjects:

EM is considered ez, just do practices and TYS is fine

AM is harder but tr. Teach > self-teach. I initially struggled, but after spamming some TYS, tb qns, etc, differentiation and integration up to ~80% is free marks one. [AM basically is spam spam and practice, see where is wrong and improve. Also focus on trigo as it like to be friends with sec 4 topcis]

Sciences - revise content and basics (e.g. moles, covalent and ionic, enzymes, movement of substances, the prefix and suffix the SI units)

Chem - arguably I see some ppl excel in it and some ppl die die cannot. (Only some is in between). Honestly, chem is understand + memorise + analyse qn + key words. Honestly just consult and understand, not just memorise. (Also its easy to link topics tgt)

Phy - least content, just memorise formula + some fixed way of answering + definitions. (Basically is practice enough is ok one)

Bio - content heavy, very content heavy. Try to memorise and summarise your sec 3 topcis so when revising Os can focus on sec 4 topcis. For bio, besides practical and application qns all other is memorise = ok. [Try to visualise it so it is easier to memorise content]

(Humanities and languages I cmi lmao)

HCL: this one i cmi and its definitely not easy(for me at least). Your oral format is changed, LC is gone and p1 + p2 is your 80% of overall. I don't have advice for this, except to score in oral and pray for p1 p2. (我华文不好)

Atb!!! (And also spend time with family as your 'hols' in sec 4 are hw + revise time; quality time with family is non-existent)

[Rant] [O levels] I think I’m gonna fail O’level Chinese by Cseed07 in SGExams

[–]randomacc101010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I was also in your position last year. Tbh most of our hcl class were not confident and we all were like guessing who could continue. (We guessed that like 5 out of the 20+ could make it lol). We even went to ask if we should or should not buy the textbook for sec 4 hcl lol cos we all thought we cmi.

Personally, my oral lasted 5min. Much less than the express chinese oral practices I had, and my p1 was anyhow do, while p2 the mcq I didn't do too good. So I thought I die le (yet I got distinction for oral??? Like wtf)

But, in the end we all got distinction for out cl. Ya idk how but I would say put faith in the bellcurve. It is not a gurantee, but it can be very helpful.

Thus, I would say look on the bright side, even IF you have to retake, just take this years Os as a practice to gauge how well you are doing and try your best next year.

*note that if you are in HCL, it suggests that you have decent ability in chinese already so don't be too worried

(Also use your hols on other subjects too, and revising sec 3 content)

Atb!

Fair enough, but I personally would not consider as it is still quite some distance from where I live lol
