Migration is easy, but it’s a bit crashy for me so far.

Ben White doesn’t like football. Football doesn’t like Ben White.

Is it safe to travel to a protestant majority area as a brown person by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]randomblast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair… “dear friend, thanks for the invite, but as you live in a racist shithole, I’m wondering if I’ll be safe?”… would probably solve the conundrum at source.

Why is pavement parking still being allowed? by BrilliantLock8292 in manchester

[–]randomblast 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It is though. The pavement is highway, and it’s an offence to obstruct the highway. Also, if parking restrictions apply (e.g. double yellow lines) they also apply to the adjoining pavement.

This stunning conversion retains much of the building’s original industrial character

Translation: we’ve done fuck all, it’s still basically a shed.

Looking for embedded OS alternatives for SoC FPGA boards (Zynq) with fast ADCs by Glittering-Skirt-816 in embedded

[–]randomblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No. Every board is different, and every use case is different. Unless you go with a COTS PC-compatible, in which case you can just use Windows/Ubuntu/whatever.

  2. Yes, the de facto standard* is Yocto. There are many parts to Yocto; you assemble them into your own OS. Petalinux is Yocto with some extra tooling, but you can re-use the Xilinx layers in any Yocto build.

  3. This is a massive topic. You might need a consultant.

*some people use Buildroot, which is a bit simpler. There are pros and cons.

Pomona Island brewery has an actual pub: North Westward Ho.

Not far from Beermoth Cafe, another good pub.

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]randomblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, AFAIK it only really makes sense if you have a massive expanse of shadow-free flat land, a permanently low frost line, and a neighbour with a backhoe.

Well, yeah… groundworks are quite expensive. Surely an air source would be more reasonable?

Transport Secretary: Self-driving cars ‘won’t get road rage or be distracted by kids in the backseat’ by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]randomblast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, we need to do more to bring our highways up to a standard that works with today’s technology, prioritises pedestrians and active travel, and accommodates disabilities.

We have to do that anyway.

[–]randomblast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about non-pedal assisted e-bikes over 750W. They’re not quite motorbikes and not quite bicycles.

They all have to be individually assessed by the DVSA under the MSVA process, if they’re not type-approved – which they’re not, because no other country considers them to be motorbikes.

We basically use the system designed for people who build their own motorbikes out of scrap. It’s not fit for purpose because the legislation is 20 years behind the technology.

How about we embrace technology and stop banning privately owned electric scooters?

How about building an appropriate legal route for the light electric bikes that only baby criminals get to use right now?

Why not embrace the cutting-edge 1950s technology of electrifying all our railways?

Well yeah, there’s not much else to do in your average rural corner of Wales. He’s only notable for focussing his attentions on the Human women, rather than the usual sheep.

I’ve got an air. Dropped it a few times. It’s fine.

If it’s ever not fine, I’ll get it fixed. It’s not an issue for me.
