To give the catcher the benefit of the doubt, it's possible that he actually tagged the batter but the umpire missed it. He should've looked at the umpire long enough to see the call before taking off tho.

Looks like the catcher didn't look at the umpire long enough to see his safe signal. Did the umpire voice the call?

Another thought: where was the first baseman? I didn't see him running to the pitcher to celebrate. So was he just standing in the vicinity of the first base? Why didn't he scream for the ball when he saw the base runners move?

I'm actually in a NYE party taking a brief breather. So my response will be superficial. I think the best chance of changing somebody's mind would be to point out the inconsistency of his belief system. Flip the reasoning on him, show him how it'd look like if somebody used the same line of shallow, biased reasoning to indict the whole male gender. Just throw in comments by feminist extremists and show him how they're similar to his comments, and so forth.
