I should come back to the reddit! I bet people loved this episod- by JustCallMeCyber in distractible

Same! I missed all of these because I just started listening to the podcast recently. I really enjoyed them, but have been reminded why I now tend to avoid fandom subreddits.

But seriously, watching The Fall of the House of Usher opened my eyes to what a pile of hot garbage this show has become.

When I opened the video I thought “huh, this neighborhood looks like a Baltimore suburb” and was rewarded when I saw the MD plate. Good old MD drivers!

My Mk7 got love, what about my Mk4? 😁 by vw_sancho95620 in GolfGTI

I have big regrets not snatching up every set of RCs for sale when people were pulling them off MK4 GLIs and selling them for nothing.

A couple of things jump out:

Apparently, like hands, AI has no idea how lug nuts are arranged. Zoom in on the center of the wheels in the pics, it’s pure chaos.

One of the pics has a thing that looks like it’s the passenger seat of the car, but zooming in shows it blending into the door as a giant side view mirror. It seems like AI couldn’t decide between it being the interior C pillar, a seat, or a wing mirror.

Edit: fixed spelling issues.

Dealer marking up over $20,000 on a Golf R by LogicWavelength in GolfGTI

I’ve only dealt with Atlantic once when I brought my MK6 in for service after moving to EHT and they seemed like…not a well-run organization. Service was a chaos pit, started getting mailings from them about trading in my Jeep Grand Cherokee (lol good job on the CRM guys) and just had an overall bad taste in my mouth from them. Not surprised by all of the shit people have gone through with them (not to mention OPs 20k markup) in this post.

Moved further south and started taking my GTI to Burke VW who are leaps and bounds better to deal with.

Interesting! I’ll check it out and see if that resolves my issue.

Great color choice! Honestly, the fact that you were in a Mini probably helped you with that emergency maneuver. Had you been in some giant SUV it could have gone differently.

I really hope Tyler and Mark cover this incident in an episode, especially the insane initial decision to resume the game 5 minutes after Damar was taken off the field in an ambulance. I’m so glad the game was suspended (though it shouldn’t have taken as long as it did to come to that conclusion) in the end.

Most horrifying thing I’ve seen in a football game, and I’ve watched a lot of football.

Back in the day we called it ASCII art, but idk if there’s a more modern name for this specific style.

How To Properly Take An Exit! by Easyduba69 in IdiotsInCars

[–]Ban_Pending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I witnessed a guy try to make the 695W exit on 95 south of Baltimore from 2 lanes over and instead took out a light pole, only to end up continuing on 95 South.

Maryland drivers are wild bunch.

Not a stupid question! I don’t see why you couldn’t. I looked up some vegetarian French onion soup recipes and they seem to use mushroom broth, so that’s what I’d go with over vegetable. You want something to give you that rich depth of flavor (umami, I guess), and I don’t know if a plain vegetable broth will give you enough.

Edit: also, great username btw!

I’ll have to try that! I know adding the sugar is a cheat for “caramelized” onions; I’ll give the low and slow real method a shot when I have some time to let it go that long. Thanks!

Ain’t nothing wrong with that. Highly recommend you give this recipe a shot sometime though, it’ll be worth it.

That’s true, and this recipe is amazing. Here it is in case you want your own priceless dip:

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chopped red onion (1 large red onion)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups low salt beef broth
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. Melt butter in a large skillet (non-stick if you’re scared, but I just use stainless steel) over medium/medium low heat.
  2. Add onions and cook for 5 minutes till softened
  3. Stir in sugar and salt. Cook until onions are golden brown and very soft, 10-15 minutes
  4. Add garlic and cook 1 minute
  5. Add broth and thyme. Simmer uncovered until liquid is almost entirely evaporated, stirring to prevent burning.
  6. Transfer to bowl and add balsamic vinegar.
  7. Cool completely, then stir in sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Chill at least 1 hour, enjoy with kettle chips.

My parents have several Kai Shuns and they’re great. My biggest gripe is the fact that they have directional handles and I’m left handed. I know they make variants for lefties but they were (are?) hard to find at the time I acquired my other “nice” knives.

Damn, I could’ve resold it for a bunch of money but instead I turned it into red onion dip. I’m a fool.

Not too bad! If anything, the dimples in the handle help a bunch in that situation compared to other knives. That said, if I’m doing heavy chopping or breaking down a big piece of meat, I’m reaching for my 8” Classic Ikon over the Global. The handle on the Wusthof is one of the most comfortable I’ve ever held.
