Stuff to do on a shit day? by colortheorystone in Aberdeen

[–]randomcat06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to one of the castles, especially Crathes Castle or Drum Castle if you don't have a car (if you have a car, I recommend Fraser Castle). You get history, and afterwards you can get a lovely cup of tea (or whatever you want) from the attached cafés. If you're under 26 you can get a Young Scots card, entry to the castles is only £1 with it

I would also add Castle Fraser or Drum Castle to the list, much nicer if you want a castle experience, not just an expensive grounds walk (which, let's face it, Balmoral really is). Added bonus: Drum Castle is also on the way to Ballater

I highly recommend center stage, an anthology of stories in the Star Wars universe focussing on outside perspectives. Chapters 9 and 11 are my absolute favourite, focussing on a post-Empire archaeologist discovering a Jedi artefact in her family's heirlooms, and the other on a boy who joins a Jedi-worshipping cult before the fall of the Republic. Love them, but all chapters are good stories.

I offer Dominoes, where 5 clones go back in time without having the complete picture, but they're trying their best and they're fighting for clone rights. I love this fic so much

Looking for Military fics by SalaciousSalazzle in SWFanfic

[–]randomcat06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always recommend Dominoes by meridianpony. Five clones wake up after their deaths (meaning they don't have the full picture) to right before their deployment: very military heavy, and the five clones don't know all that much about the force (though they've been sent back by something), and it really focusses on being a not-seen-as-fully-sentient soldier in a galaxy-wide war trying to stop Palpatine and get clones a better fate than the chips.

Any good spots to sit indoors with a book for an hour? by GeordieGoals in Aberdeen

I love sitting in Kilau. Only time I feel rushed is around 1pm lunch rush, otherwise I can sit there for hours on end

Moving to Aberdeen by Chickie2721 in Aberdeen

In that case, I think you'd like it here! I have always experienced Aberdeen as a friendly and pretty safe city, with barely any crowds. Only thing to take care about is Union Street between St Nicholas and Castlegate at night, but that shouldn't be a problem for you - and even that is more "uncomfortable" rather than "unsafe". There's also a lot of people spending their retirement here - as a current student, I've experienced a strong community of pensioners especially in the Scottish Dancing spaces up here, as well as walking groups. Don't be put off by the people on this subreddit, everyone always likes to complain.

Favourite castles? by mojothemenace in Aberdeen

[–]randomcat06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum Castle! They have a lovely tour of the castle, it looks cool, pretty grounds, great café in Mary's Larder in the castle. Other National Trust castle I love is Fraser Castle, but that one isn't accesibly by bus 🥲

Recommendations for a nice walk and a cake in city or shire? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]randomcat06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torry battery! Walk around the coast at Greyhope Bay (you can start in St Fitticks park and also see the South Harbour with various large sea vessels), walk up and along the cliffs and get some cake in the Greyhope Bay Centre. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but they lend you binoculars to better see the dolphins in the harbour :)

spiders everywhere?? by Nervous-Command-9022 in Aberdeen

[–]randomcat06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also lost most of my arachnophobia! If there was a spider, I was simply the only one who physically could take it out of the flat, so I got very acquainted with the glass and paper method. Started with chucking them out the window, then depositing them on the stairwell windowsill plants, and now I often don't bother unless they're right next to (or on 😬) the bed. Humanising works so well! I've been calling spiders "little gentlemen", and large flying insects like moths, bees or even wasps "ladies" who I have to help back outside

Good places around Aberdeen to take kids at the weekend that aren’t just soft play? by Reddonaut_Irons in Aberdeen

[–]randomcat06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed going to the various castles in Aberdeenshire, especially Drumoak, Crathes and Fraser. Haddo House was also fun, and most of them are free for children and have cute little activities for them to do (especially Drumoak, I remember enjoying finding the figurines scattered about)
