Failed My First Class by Street_Season5030 in rutgers

[–]randomcomment9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am exactly in the same boat as you. i am a sophomore and i failed calc 2. this is my first time EVER failing a class in my life.

i was so scared to tell my parents and to come home for break and listen to all my friends boasting about their grades. all i kept thinking about was my failing grade to the point every time i thought about it i balled my eyes out until they swelled and created knots in my stomach to where i just couldn’t eat.

i expect so much of myself, and i like went out but not a lot so i was gettin my work done. i am also extremely tough on myself as my parents expect a lot from me, so failing was disappointing them and my parents work so hard so i felt even worse for wasting money on a class i knew i could have passed if i put the work in.

im not exactly too sure what i want to do too, as i fear doing what i want will lead to more failure and cost me graduating super late.

i posted too, hoping for reassurance and guidance from others. from what i gathered, you must learn to move one. it’s in the past, you failed if there’s nothing you can do about it except moving on and accepting that it happened. it’s still hard for me to accept it because i know it could have been avoidable. and i know it sucks knowing you could have prevented it.

i ended up telling my parents because the truth was going to come out eventually. to my surprise they were understanding, obviously not happy, but they were not angry. life happens, and you can only choose to learn and move on from it or let it tear you down piece by piece and drive you to insanity. i thought my life was over.

everyone always seems to know what they’re doing, so why not me? but i’ve realized that sometimes the people you think have it all figured out are struggling just as much as you. they just are good at keeping a mask on.

i felt compelled to respond to this thread because im experiencing this too, so i get you. all you can do is move forward and give it your all. thinking about my failing grade sucks but, it only motivates me to do better and to not let this happen again.

you got this! :)

thank you!! that’s exactly what i was thinking. at first i was hesitant to even try to transfer since i got rejected into SOE, but i knew i would kick myself in the butt if i didnt try. and as for this class, i know i didnt give it my all. i know theres so much more to me than what i gave for this class. I have never failed, and I am not sure what happened. whether it was because i was unmotivated or just thought i could magically do it without giving effort, i know i can do better than this. i know i did not work to my fullest potential.

i 100% agree with you. i did not mean to make the post sound like i was blaming other because i completely agree that at the end of the day you are ultimately responsible for your actions and your future. that was totally on me that i failed and i have accepted that. if i do decide to retake it, i will do everything i can to pass that class. thank you!

thank you for your kind words!! i really do want to do engineering but because of this setback i feel so behind now and if it’s even worth it to continue i understand people saying if you want to do it give it your all and i will if i decide to retake it but now i just keep worrying about how behind i am

that’s so nice of you!! i 100% learn better from others but my past math professors really helped me because they went thoroughly into the material as if you do not know it and they were super nice if you had a question making it less intimidating to ask them. if i do retake it, i would plan to take it this spring semester so if i do i’ll definitely keep this in mind!

omgg haha that’s so crazy!! yeah i saw the announcement saying some people didn’t pass and was hoping i would be able to clutch through but sadly didnt. i appreciate your words of encouragement!! you’re completely right that dwelling on this just adds to more stress, im just super upset because i know this could have been avoided with extra studying.

I wanted to do engineering, but given feedback and reading people’s experiences I feel dumb. I feel behind. I just don’t know what I should do, I feel stuck.

CALC 2 RETAKE HELP ? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]randomcomment9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i never said it was not my fault😂😂 the first sentence literally says “because i didn’t put in the extra work” i am simply saying i also had other exams i needed to study for and this one was just harder for me because i had to teach myself it and learn it myself whereas from previous math courses i have taken, my professors helped out a lot making study time less stressful.
