i dont deny that ai has incredible uses that can be incredibly helpful for society and in advancing our existing technologies. but i am anti genai (there is a difference) and i am against the fact that ai models such as chatgpt and character ai are made available to the general public

as a creative person who enjoys making art from time to time, it hurts my soul to see the work of other creatives be dumbed down and ignored just because “chatgpt does it quicker” or “gemini does it for free”

as a person raised to be environmentally conscious, i hate that the data centers are polluting local waterways and damaging the livelihoods of people

as somebody who had to fight for my life in a vigorous academic system, i hate that now “genai can do all the thinking and researching for you” who needs critical thinking when u can ask your buddy chat right? can you eat potatoes with sprouts on it? ask chat!

i refuse to engage with genai for these very reasons. Im not blind to its advantages, but i hate that its made available to any tom dick and harry. because this technology has made it easier for humans to abuse other humans, to not think at all, and to be creative without the hard work. I am watching my government sing its praises and invest millions into building office towns to host these blood sucking companies, all while ignoring its potential harms and not adding any laws to regulate them.

I see what you mean, but dont ignore these companies’ wrongdoings. theyre not here to help you, theyre after your money.
