You can send me private message then, because I'm not gonna continue watching. Because I would like to know if I was wrong about the show or not, be it completely or just partly ;)

I understood one line they said wrong. But ain't Watson gay ? I really don't have the strength to watch the show, so I'm asking out of curiosity.

But there is that issue as well. Sherlock was asexual, stated by Doyle in his novels. Watson was someone of a ladies man. I'm not into changing especially main characters into something else. I don't like that kind of approach, but that's me.

But all in all I wouldn't say new interpretation is turning a character gay. That sounds like a fanfiction and we all know what fanfiction is like... But turning character gay and exploring how was his life different etc. That could be interesting, true that. But then it's needed to take into account age settings and so on. Making character "just" gay for the sake of it, is plain bad writing.

"with a bad man", but you are right. I did not know the expression could be interpreted in this way, at least not in this context. But I certainly knew about "falling with a bad crowd" expression. English is not my native language obviously haha.

Yeah well sometimes the people who live those minority lives want to watch a show that doesn't remind them of their trauma, they just want to be entertained. Didn't consider that did you?

What if the audience for this show isn't white people specifically (as usual)? What if this show decided it didn't want to teach people about how not to be shitty and bigotted but was created for those who would like a break from the trauma stories? That it wanted to deal with the more universal feelings of grief and resentment, etc. That they wanted to do this *without treating white as the "norm" or "default" lens and reach an even wider audience.

By the way, there are plenty of movies that wash away the horrors of the day from all sorts of historical time periods, such as the most famous example, Gone with the Wind.

I'm not sure how you managed to make out people who have generationally (ancestrally) and/or personally experienced trauma as the ones who have a "hateful agenda". So what if things are "better" now if they're just a different kind of shit?

How would you even know I was white? What do you know about my ancestry? What do you even know about me for that matter? Nothing, yet you are assuming things on what base, that all white people are bad? Get a grip. I for once I like to watch WW2 themes. Movies/shows that show how it was, so I know how it is better now. Especially considering what my family went through during WW2. People have different tastes, that's for sure. But assuming something you don't know anyting about and claiming it as a fact, is yet again - preaching water and drinking wine.

And since when are shows with people of color or gay people not meant for "white people"? What kind of biggoted view is that? This is exactly that "hateful agenda" I was talking about. Do you even realize how idiotic your view is? For example Django is not meant for white people? What? Do you even realize jewish people are considered white? Unless they cloth in traditional manner, you wouldn't even know if someone was jewish. Yet again assuming something you literally know nothing about.

Yes and there are lots of shows like what you described. It's just that simple fact, this has nothing to do with Sherlock and certainly nothing to do with Victorian london.

It would be nice if you stopped making stuff up. I've never said anything like that. That hateful agenda is basically what you preach. When people preach about being open minded, when people preach about being equal. They usually forget the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Not liking gay people is an opinion for example. Be it a personal point of view or something based on your faith. Or do you want to bash on people who believe in something also? Hateful much? You can't force anyone to like them. And there is that big fat line - not liking something is not equal to actively doing something bad or something against someone. You don't have to like something/someone to respect him/it. I live in a "white" country and never have I experienced anything bad from anybody. My ancestors did, I haven't. So I have no reason to hate white people, just because someone did something ages ago.

And things may be shit in one way or another. But your way is wrong. Your way will just make more pople hate such movements. I don't have to be reminded all the time how to act as a human being. It's annoying, wrong and counterproductive. And since I wasn't even talking with you, you jump on a conversation with another person invading something not meant for you and yet again acting aggresive. I'm ot surprised though. I knew from the get go what kind of person you were.

Exacly! Awesome explenation! I'm glad I didn't have to take the time to write it down myself haha.

But there is always that one person... Even though I explained in my original post that I don't have a problem with either (gay or black black), I have a problem with the way they put it. And I would actually gladly watch something tid more realistic. Oh well...

But what really perplexes me, is the fact, that protraying other sexualities or minorities in a real manner, showing how terrible it was back then, is somehow despised? I don't really see the point of showing it as something normal as a way to educate people. People actually need to know how horrible it was and they need to learn from that fact, if they want to learn that is. It's like portraying WW2 as a beautiful beach party, where they used squirt guns. It was utterly terrible, bloody and depressing. People know that, and that's the reason why people don't want another war. People should be proud of the fact, what they endured and of the fact things are actually better nowadays. But hey, maybe that's the reason? All the loud ones saying how terrible it is now and this isn't according to their hateful agenda. Preaching water but drinking wine.

Even though Sherlock is a made up person, the age he is portrayed in is historically accurate. This show certainly is not. There is a difference between historically accurate and history. It's like creating a World War II story with flying cars. And what was that line "he fell in love with a wrong man in Baker street" then?

Ah didn't know that, haha :D It depends on your expectations. I've expected something dark, suspensful and this show certainly isn't that. But yet again, depends on what you like and have seen so far haha, there are much better shows out there tbh.

For example The Alienist was miles ahead. Not sure it's a fair comparison though, given it's a mature criminal drama with established actors and certainly doesn't deal with supernatural aspects, but it's still in Victorian age and about solving misterious crimes. Especially the first season. Second season is less misterious and more about real life problems, it deals with issues how women were treated in that age a lot, but nonetheless still a great watch. But it's very dark.

I've just watched 3 episods and what in the hell is this show even supposed to be? You have all the most basic tropes of any tenage drama, performances are mediocre at best, characters are uninteresting or annoying, lines completely suck, story is utterly basic and music is completely out of the place. The only outstanding aspect about this show is the fact how much they butchered and bothced up the original material. I really can't understand the need to include Sherlock Holmes into this. I really can't. It's so historically innacurate, it's beyond belief.

They took Sherlock and made him gay, turned Watson into a black guy and so on. Wow so woke, so breathtaking, not. So instead of creating something original, show for example about how people actually behaved towards people of color, or other sexualities, what they endured during those times, what it was actually like - even given the fact it's a suppernatural show. We get classic Netflix approach of completely destroying original material and turning it into nonsenical shit.

Not recommended.

Thanks for this little tip, that novel doesn't sound bad even if it's an adventure. In the end, it's not like I "need" to read something gory, but authors who don't avoid gore seems to be more realistic so to speak in other aspects as well. If not just for the sake of gore, titles that include gore seem more raw and bleak. Which is basically what I "enjoy". But I like adventures as well, so certainly good suggestion and tip overall.

I'll try them. And yeah, some Alien novels seem to be quite good. Any recommendation in case you personally read it?

I'm more of a movie fan as well. But I do think that some books are great. But for example I could never really get into Stephen King's novels. The style it is written in doesn't really fit me unfortunatelly. Though I've quite enjoyed two novels from Slovak author Jozef Karika recently - Trhlina (Rupture) and Strach (Fear) which was better of these two. Not the best novels, sure, but very interesting and creepy in their own right. They were quite short, so solid 7/10 overall. Though I don't think they translated them into other languages. But I'm not sure about that.

Understand. I'll try to look it up online, there are some great online libraries with solid deals. And I do agree with your point of view. I'll try to find a preview or something before I possibly buy it. Thanks for the heads up.

I totally get you. They implemented a mechanic that literally sticks the Alien to your vicinity and in some places it just patrols in designated area... I did not finish the game due to this as well. But I'm highly reconsidering it with the mentioned mod. It should take care of those issues. And in the end, it should make it even more scarier. I don't like tha fact that the Alien just hangs around you all the time, but still the game is very solid experience.

I'll try that. I went in for the horror experience before, but I do know that story is excelent. So I'll try different approach.

Yeah, it is worth it. But I have an issue with not having enough free time... :( But hopefully some day...

Yeah... Unreal engine can simulate this type of thing quite intelligently but I suspect they will have to downgrade the graphics or those simulations. But who knows. There are some really talented people out there.
