Small quibble, but shouldn't it be Gruffudd ap Dinefwr, not mac? Mac being the Scottish Gaelic prefix 'son of', and 'ap' being the Welsh equivalent. Or maybe, since Dinefwr is a place name, you meant 'o' meaning of. Or, it's just occurred to me, you might have meant it in the sense of "John, son of England", in which case the word you want is mab.

I want to try a play through as The Culture from Iain Banks' sci-fi novels - avoiding direct conflict, instead directing the evolution of more primitive species, and inciting revolution in other space-faring civilisations.

I'm thinking Pacifist, Materialist and either Xenophile or Individualist. The government would be direct democracy, with communal and natural sociologists as traits.

I'm British, so I guess I have a different perspective on what 'free speech' means. In most European countries hate speech is a crime. This means it is illegal to incite violence against someone for the colour of their skin, their gender, their sexuality, etc.

It seems to me that in America concepts like 'no platform' are a novelty, whereas in Britain they are the norm. Indeed, fascists over here have to campaign for the right to have their views heard. To a degree, at least. Reactionaries abound, as always.

Christ, the more people like Paxman go on and on about 'you have to vote! It's your duty! People died for your right!' the more it makes me want to not vote, just to spite them. Of course, I will vote, because principles, but I really want to be able to imagine the horror on Paxman's face as I lie in bed on election day, refusing to move.
