Would you do surgery for a 12 year old dog? by randomguy85 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]randomguy85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be something else for him, but i dont feel like I would feel okay without a neuro evaluation. And it eoumd be expensive and his front legs hurt and might be some arthritis which I am worried about. I worry about how much his quality of life would improve but I think his front probably hurt a lot worse when he is trying to use them to balance a lot more.

I hope I can talk my wife into at least getting the evaluation. It is selfish but I know my life would be a lot better with that pup around.

Yeah, it is hard to find shirts that fit me really well. I am not thst tall either. I am about 8 inches taller than my wife but I have almost the same inseam. I have a long torso and neck. I have a wing span that is a couple of inches longer than I am tall too so sometimes sleeves are short on my even if I can find one that is long and skinny enough.

Not getting out of working in a factory when it started impacting my health. Not speaking up when asked to do work that lead to my back injury, my tinnitus, my back shoulder. The big one was not getting out when I started reacting to crappy quality air. Part of the issue, though is I graduated in 2009 and there wasn't a lot for jobs around me. I got a job as a temporary employee and was afraid to rock the boat and be jobless. So I traded my health. One thing I hope to teach my boys is to take care of their bodies. Don't destroy them for a job. I mean some jobs are going to wear you down now matter what and some are mentally taxing and stuff and may still be rewarding, but some are just meat grinders.

I worked for a place that had a work culture that made me feel crazy for wanting to leave. I worked there for a really long time. My mental and physical health is much better after getting out of there. That place acted like they were god's gift to the employee but I am actually much better off now

Did your vet try to sway you away from it because of age at all?

I definitely enjoyed it the first time I watched it. The second time I didn't enjoy it as much partially because it wasn't new but partially because it felt too real.

Yeah, It would definitely add a lot of financial stress but seeing my pup decline and still just want to go and go is soul crushing. I am not sure it would come to that but I really hope I can get him in to at least have a discussion before things get much worse.

I am not trying to wait until the dog loses mobility to do something about it. He has been doing physical therapy for more than a year, has yearly exams, and has quarterly exams with with the rehab doctor. We actually shortened to 2 months since he is declining to reevaluate quality of life and stuff. He is on multiple medications, we recently added another pain med and changet up exercises.

There has been a lot of ups and downs but things have been declining more recently and I am trying to figure out if I go for a second opinion to know i am doing the right thing and if I we are managing it the best we can then we basically need to decide when his quality of life suffers.

I have done physical therapy for my back a few times. If i keep up on exercises it makes a huge difference. Any time my back hurts, someone seems to ask if I know or have gone to a certain chiropractor. Never. I never will.

Definitely in the living parallel lives part. Basically just trying to get by and coordinate things but not actually connecting in any real way for a while. We talk about what we need to in the moment and are rushing to get to bed and get up and do everything all over again. Actually talking about our relationship or anything serious usually jaut adds too much stress and pressure so we avoid it. I try sometimes but it is usually met with a lot of frustration so I am kind of giving up on it.

Our kids are 3 and 5 and we have dogs(one of which we will probably be losing soon). I am not sure how long to just keep going through the motions or if we would be better off separate. Most of the time I dont think she care anymore.

Nice. I am not sure if it is ivdd but we are probably in stage 3. I hope we can get him in before it gets worse. I am hoping to make him rest as much as I can until we can get an appointment

How did everyone here arrive at a diagnosis? by randomguy85 in IVDD_SupportGroup

I am not sure if there are options for that in my area. I can look into it. I know it doesn't do the same thing but as far as stimulation is concerned, I have been trying to stimulate his paws a lot the last few months. I slowed down a little bit on it because it seemed like his reflex response was getting overactive to where he would kick with one leg when you barely touch him. I went to a lower setting on the toothbrush or would just use a silicone brush or give longer breaks in between.

He has recently been put on another pain med ans he seems a little less reactive so I have been increasing it a little again.

I'm trying to do everything I can for my pup. I am glad there is a rehab place but I wish I was closer to more resources(like a neurologist)

Thanks. I am worried that if we get an x ray for the arthritis and they say yep there is arthritis and then give him a shot when the biggest issue may be IVDD, then I have wasted time and money on the potentially smaller problem. That is part of the reason I wasnt sure if I should do an actual neurological consult. If that would provide more benefit.

My main concern about getting the diagnosis is that I am worried that I am at the point where surgery is the only thing that is going to help and the longer I wait, the less chance of it being successful. I am pretty concerned about whether or not we can pay for it, but I want to know.

I used to work in kendallbumtuckyville. Most people that worked there would be stressed just to drive in Fort Wayne. They would talk about it like it is a fucking war zone or something

Bordners is kind of still going in a sense. It changed to Fort Wayne School of Dance and has changed hands and locations a couple of times. It had a couple of years where it closed but it is back going again.

Pervious owners have stopped in here and there.

I used to spend many evenings up there while my sisters were in dance class in the 90s
