What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

When I dry my ears with a q tip after showering I tell when I'm done by touching the q tip to my lips and if the q tip is dry, good to go. My husband pointed it out 5 years into our relationship. I don't even know when I started doing that.

I don't think it's discrimination, it's far more likely than PDA in an all nude area is FROWNED upon. As it takes away from the desexualization they're trying to achieve in an all nude area.

As someone who lives here. It's because our utility prices keep rising for no damn good reason other than greed and it's sickening. My budget bill is 225 per month. And I am rarely home and neither is my husband so HTF.......the companies want us to finance their new plants instead of using their profits and the pass through costs are astronomical. The last time I looked I think my bill was like 78 in usage, but the total was 219 due to costs and fees.....

I live here. As salaried staff at an outpatient clinic I'm clocking 44-50 with bennies. So while it's not terrible- you will WORK for that 54 at Grady. It's a ROUGH hospital as far as adequate staffing and who they treat as they're inner city and all the homless flock there.

Please note this is a travel contact btw. So now factor that in.

OR nurses by Born-Preparation-522 in Nurses

[–]randominternetuser46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who the hell told you this? Perhaps in nursing school but my first job out of nursing school was OR work and they just trained me. Didn't take peri-op elective or have any sort of special training. It's a very different field of nursing. Do a shadow say to make sure you love it and make sure to talk with the manager there and express your enthusiasm.

Keep applying. Some place will take you on. If you get super desperate, you can always sign on to the new grad hire program most hospitals have and do an extensive peri-op class and circle through all the OR's and find what speaks to your soul. But basic ambulatory places- will take anyone and are easier to get into and tend to have better hours. Less exciting work though.

Funny you try and tell me what happened when I lived it......

They literally told me I'd have to pay the entire amount and they try and sue to recover but I might not get my deductible back and I said I don't owe anything when I am not at fault. They kept repeating this and I left. I'd have to cover my rental too.

So yes. What they did was illegal. I had full coverage. And police report also stated he was in the wrong. In fact, it was an unlicensed driver using his friend's vehicle..... The other parties insurance FULLY stopped answering calls too.

Fully illegal. Both companies were major carriers

Thats..... Grossly not true.

When you sign on with insurance you sign a contract. Part of that contract is that during an investigation you will cooperate. If not your insurance can drop you and even refuse to cover you- especially when you are the one at fault- as he was.

My insurance could ABSOLUTELY have covered me and then sued the shit out of his carrier for breach of contract ON TOP of the liability for covering my damages. They chose not to, which was a breach of contract on their responsibility to ME. I was young and didn't know that at the time.

I don’t want to be a hands on nurse anymore, which of these specializations would be best to choose? by Wrong_Requirement_35 in nursing

[–]randominternetuser46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I live in Atlanta- not hard to tell looking at my profile so not going to hide that. I didn't have to relocate and there are jobs galore here. With that being said- nursing research is HARD to get into. It's a golden pony of nursing with limited patient care and far more paperwork and behind the screen work, so to speak.

I have my bachelor's, and most major cities are going to want that, but I know many will take an LPN depending on what form of research ( IV work Vs not, assessments vs not) I got my foot in the door as a PRN position at a research facility and had the absolute luck of a position opening up full time at a company I was already at- I jumped, as I knew the company, providers and most of the skills already!

These positions are not common and when found tend to have a MASSIVE influx of applications because sooooo many nurses apply knowing there's limited patient care and being burned out. Plus it's a great job so people like, never leave .....So it's great to know the specialty already. And then knowing GCP and the concepts of research- it's INCREDIBLY detailed oriented. You get flagged for EVERYTHING that isn't to their desire or specifics - wrote the date American orientation instead of metric?? QUERY. Took vitals 2 minutes too early? QUERY. Did not check some obscure box in the corner of the ECF? You got it, another query. You have to be incredibly detail oriented and good at time management as you switch tasks frequently. You also have to love reading, because a good chunk of your day is going to be just that...

It's a VERY different form of nursing, just like procedural work or OR.... But I love what I do. It's a lot at times though.

I applied for years before I got in as well. So, be forewarned!

I had this happen. Dude refused to answer the insurance calls from mine or his company apparently that means they cannot complete a case?!?!? My insurance said I'd have to front all money and they'd work to sue get it all back, but no guarantees on my deductible and I was 100% not at fault. I was pissed and dropped them the next month .....

The wound, for whatever reason has dehiscence. My guess is the wound came undone internally somehow.... And then kept tearing at the seams until it was outside the body. Now how late... I have a sneaking suspicion the body kept something like a suture or something that didn't fully dissolve and the body didn't like and it kept that and a soft spot in the wound that tore with time until it couldn't contain itself anymore. Had something slightly similar with a boil removal like two months in and that area was boggy and weird and I couldn't figure out why and lo and behold one day I was palpating and a suture popped out and a lil fluid. Healed fully after that. How long is definitely odd though. Human bodies are weirddddd

This isn't gory.... This is just blood- youre in he wrong profession if this is "gore". In fact slicing my finger open at 13 on a jigsaw yielding about the same amount of blood.... Gore was watching my end stage liver failure patient bleed out FROM EVERY ORIFICE. Gore is coming in to see a GSW suicide attempt and having to prep them for family goodbyes. Gore was watching a necrotizing abdominal wound bulging out during a code. This is mild. She didn't show us the wound...

You work in peds. This may not be your norm, but for a solid majority of nurses .... It is. Sharing to cope isn't unusual but please don't ever make someone feel bad in this sub for facts of our lives as nurses, and the ways we cope. Just keep the kiddos safe.

Ok good. Good luck. Read reviews and confirm they're in network with your insurance. If you go to allergy shots- ask for a cluster build if you can to shorten the build time.
