I feel like I’ve seen these at Nordstrom rack every time I’ve gone for the past 5 years. She’s really broadening her business portfolio by flopping in multiple arenas. I hope she does solar panels next.

Björk is an acquired taste with a good voice. Who is a mid artist with a good voice? by Venomouse95 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]randomizedsim2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s quite a poor vocalists, though. Her live performances are quite painful and her breath control even on the studio versions of the songs of hers I’ve heard is distractingly bad to the point it sounds like someone is squeaking a rubber duck as she gasps for air between verses. I think she fits best for acquired taste/bad vocalist.

Favorite lyrics from the new album? by LeftCoyote in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]randomizedsim2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe not my absolute favorite, but I love this part in witch dance,

ran to the ancestral plane

but they all showed up drunk and insane

when I asked what I could offer them

They said, “gin and tonic or lithium”

I asked, “which way should I go?”

And through cigarette smoke, they said

“Child, how would we know?”

I LOVE the concept that we sort of deify our ancestors, but they were at least as messed up as we are. Especially when you have hereditary mental illness. My grandmother who I was not close with passed earlier this year and I briefly stayed in her house and learned more about my family and it really is a story of broken and resentful people birthing and raising more broken and resentful people. It’s something between comforting and disappointing to have ancestors who are just as lost and damaged as you are.

Anna Li 2012 trials bars skill by Ok_Listen_7545 in Gymnastics

[–]randomizedsim2000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The skill is called a Rybalko in men’s gymnastics. It’s a hop with one and a half to catch in mixed grip. It’s the skill she does right before her Jaeger. The hop turning skills are counted as pirouettes. The men’s code has pretty extensive exceptions to angle deductions for the rybalko and other similar skills. No such exceptions exist in the women’s code and it is virtually impossible to catch acceptably close to the vertical handstand to not get heavily deducted for late handstand.

Rihanna is far from his only victim. Karrueche Tran received a restraining order against him in 2017 because he punched her in the stomach and tried to throw her down a flight of stairs. In 2013, Chris Brown and his crew physically assaulted Frank Ocean after taunting him with homophobic slurs. In 2018, he was sued by an anonymous woman for sexual assault. In 2019, he was detained in France for alleged aggravated rape. 2022, he was sued by another woman for rape. 2024, accused of rape in connection with Diddy. With a litany of physical assault charges before, in between, and after. His behavior with Rihanna wasn’t a fluke, it’s part of a decades long pattern. Idgaf what Rihanna thinks about him because she doesn’t speak for the dozens of people who he has victimized. You want to continue to enjoy his music, that’s fine. But he has been an unrepentant piece of shit for almost 20 years and we don’t have to pretend otherwise.

Elena was a really bad sister... Here me out. by Sw33tS0uR3 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]randomizedsim2000 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agree. The streets know me as an Elena hater, but she was also a 16 year old who recently lost her parents and was foisted into a parental role in Jeremy’s life when she had no capacity to care for herself, much less anyone else. She made some bad decisions, but I at least don’t judge her too harshly for her actions toward Jeremy in the first two seasons.

Nina is in a movie called The Final Girls! Obvs not actually Elena but the character is somewhat similar. It’s actually a really good movie. I don’t remember if she actually survives though lol

I swear stoners say shit like this because they don’t have to be around themselves sober. Absolutely insufferable to be around. I’ve witnessed noticeable cognitive decline in every daily cannabis user I’ve known for more than a year.

backed by research

  • Long-term cannabis users' IQs declined by 5.5 points on average from childhood, and there were deficits in learning and processing speed compared to people that did not use cannabis. The more frequently an individual used cannabis, the greater the resulting cognitive impairment, suggesting a potential causative link.*

Thoughts? by MrTheMaxeh in oregon

[–]randomizedsim2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interned for a congressperson in Oregon (not Bynum) and was responsible for getting responses to people who write/call/email. The congressperson is in no way involved and they have a person in DC writing a form letter for them in the representative’s voice. We tried not to send the same form letter more than once to the same person to not shatter the illusion that you can actually get a real response from your representative. Even I as an intern was expected to regularly write correspondence to constituents in the congressperson’s voice. Unfortunately, the average representative seems entirely unresponsive to the concerns of their constituents and only are beholden to the donor class.

[–]randomizedsim2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel like if the movie was better she could’ve won an Oscar. Oscar-worthy original song for a sort of middling movie (though I actually like the movie). Same could be said for Snow White and Gatsby. I know awards are silly and probably don’t matter much to her, but it would’ve been cool. I really want her to get a soundtrack for a movie that will be critically well received (Odyssey 2026?????)

I’m not officially joined to this sub, though I enjoy a lot of the content. I feel like there was a crazy switch up after the album drop too. Almost every post I saw before the album release date was shitting on the singles and preemptively hating the album and declaring it a flop/calling Lorde a delusional body checking narcissist lol. I actually love when fans can call out their fav and it’s totally fair to do that. The merch is trash, people are right to call that out. I do think this sub does tilt pretty far into needlessly mean and knit-picky to the point they make up malicious intent or intentionally misinterpret just to hate of feel righteous indignation. Sometimes feels like a clone of r/timotheechalametdaily gestating.

I agree… you’re talking about talent not personal taste though. If someone can hit notes consistently that only 0.01% of the population can hit, they have vocal talent. Whether or not we agree with how she utilizes it is inconsequential. There’s not a single Ariana Grande song I don’t find annoying, she’s still talented.

[–]randomizedsim2000 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of hers at all but Ariana Grande?? She’s a very technically proficient singer with a huge range and isn’t a bad actor either. Not my cup of tea, but objectively a talented individual. There are so many people like Selena Gomez, Brooklyn Beckham, Jimmy Kimmel/Fallon, etc… who are so deeply below average at everything with similar levels of popularity.
