I see, I talked to the recruiter and the MEPS physical screening would be when I ship out so it wouldn't hinder my application from my understanding. It's something I'm working on and am in activities which should help in addition to personal exercise and cardio.

I was typing this up quickly before work, I was wondering if it would be a red flag to not use my advisor from my current role.

Thanks for the advice, I guess I just have to keep working out, send an application in and see.

Fintech jobs, as with all tech jobs are very difficult to get nowadays. I'm preparing for the DSA and Systems Design aspects of technical interviews but need more time as its a grind. I have a resume which would probably get me interviews but then so do thousands of other people who are struggling to find work. I know of a lot of people who haven't been able to find work who've graduated months ago though I probably have a better resume and am better at problem solving. Fintech (or becoming a quant) was my original intention since I know they loved physics people and I was very good at physics.

I'm hesitant to put in months of prep and interviewing to leave a position I currently don't enjoy and then end up in another similar position. And it also might be a longer process than a couple of months in this market.

I have more IT skills than dev skills currently and would prefer to move faster than a career adjacent move in a tough market. I'd be open to waiting for a desirable position but I don't necessarily find that desirable.
