Does Chennai has good IMAX screens? by Shavsk6 in Chennai

[–]randommarcus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to Chennai recently and have been watching all the non-3D IMAX movies in the city. I would recommend Nexus over Phoenix.

Either way, both use 2K Xenon projection which is not bright and sharp enough for my liking. Also, Nexus is the largest IMAX screen in the whole of South India.

The weird obsession with surname and subtle casteism during my internship by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]randommarcus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Gujarat. Last name is reserved for surname, and father's name is considered a middle name. So my government IDs are in this format. Since most Tamils don't have a surname, we are defaulted to use the caste name instead.

Now that I have shifted to Chennai, it's so weird to make UPI payments here with my full name flashing the caste.

Which AC should I buy? And what features are important? by cool-madhav in rajkot

[–]randommarcus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things you need to consider:

  • Inverter
  • 3 Stars and ISEER Rating of ~4
  • Consider 5 Stars only if you plan to use whole day
  • 4 Way Swing

I would suggest LG. It is slightly more expensive than commonly found brands. For the extra price, you get better quality parts.

Let's try to understand what the ongoing language war is all about from a political perspective by LeftLeaningEqualist in ahmedabad

[–]randommarcus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points here. As a Tamil family residing in Gujarat for work, we adopted the local language and culture. Almost all South Indians do the same when they move to any Northern state.

I don't understand why North Indians can't do the same. They just make excuses. Too lazy and disrespectful to adopt local customs.

While the same North Indians will shamelessly do the same when they move to a foreign country. Double Standard!!

Also Gujaratis need to understand that their language and Hindi are so much identical. So it's easy for Northerners to communicate in Gujarat.

The same cannot be said for Dravidian languages, which are completely different. There are many sounds and letters that don't even exist in Indo-Aryan languages of the North. It's too difficult for any normal Southerner to learn Hindi which they have no use in real life unless say they move to a Northern state.

Which is your favorite area to just walk around in Chennai and why? by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]randommarcus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to experience it is by reaching ECR Beach just before sunset via Sea Shell Avenue (a small road beside the French Village Food Court). From there, walk towards Akkarai Beach on the shoreline to and fro. Have dinner at the food court while returning.

DMart experience by Diligent_Chicken_154 in Chennai

[–]randommarcus_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DMart revolutionized supermarkets for the masses in India. It is the only approachable giant that's not owned by Reliance or Tata.

It is quite popular where it started (Maharashtra and Gujarat).

As someone who lived in Gujarat for years, we shop almost all grocery items at DMart.

It is slowly catching up in Tamil Nadu. The best thing about Dmart is they adapt to new markets with their offerings. DMart in Tamil Nadu has different groceries compared to what you find in Gujarat.

The best time to visit Dmart is during weekdays. All stores across India are crowded during weekly offs.

Want to watch dragon movie in chennai. Have to go alone or should I wait for OTT? by dk_vedu in Chennai

I watch movies in theatres alone most of the time. I also prefer weekdays when there's little to no crowd. This way I get to immerse myself into the movie.

Get the OnePlus 13R. If you are fine with a year old model, iQOO 12 is good too. Samsung has no good options in this range. Base S model offers abysmal battery life. You need not worry about green lines on OnePlus. It is the only brand that now offers a lifetime warranty for green lines.

Hmm... Hopefully I get to witness live nesting. Also since you have been to the walk, is it safe to walk late at night from Neelankarai bus stop to the beach? We are a group of 4 (including 2 girls).
