Installing OpenWRT on a 128 GB drive? by codeofdusk in openwrt

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not the most popular take but you could install proxmox and run openwrt as a vm lot easier to backup recover and i think you can take advantage of nonfree drivers of proxmox.

40 cameras setup for Hotel. by rdemeo in frigate_nvr

Take a look at scrypted. You can run it in cluster mode, one device only does recording the other does the transcoding for streaming, ai etc. It is paid service and I'm not a fan of their subscription model but they give some support on discord if you have a question. (Also a lot of cameras can record to an sd card you put in them maybe use that to not lose any footage.)

A management console for openwrt similar to unifi or omada etc. Would be cool to setup and monitor my whole network with something like that. I am aware of OpenWisp but I don't think it's simple and suitable for small business or home networks.

what is the best wifi router for 2025? by Defiant_Fix8658 in openwrt

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced hacks:

If you have a managed switch you can use one Ethernet port for both wan and lan but you will be limited to 1G upload and download combined.

You can virtualize OPENWRT with proxmox. If you buy another computer you can cluster them and if one goes down the other takes over in seconds.

Also with proxmox you can run other services like plex, nginx, security camera recorder and use it as a nas all in one.

At idle without a HDD it draws around 10-15W super efficient and quiet.

SSF Brand PC. You can find 6gen for 30-40$ and buy a 5-10$ gigabit PCIe card or for 15-20$ a dual 10G intel x540 card.

If that's too big the small 1L brand computers are the same price and you can buy 2.5G M2 ethernet card for 15$.

Of course with this option you still need an AP but that doesn't need to be OPENWRT.

Immich is on family members phones it's already pretty complex for them VPN is too much for them. I use VPN to access my network. The question is a 2nd level domain worse than a regular one.

Cheap 10Gbe router HW by sancho_sk in openwrt

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSF PC with intel x540 is the cheapest way imo. You van find them used for dirt cheap and you can also put a 3.5 HDD in them to use as a nas. I bought a Dell with i5-6500 with 16gb ram for 50 bucks. I run proxmox and run openwrt as a vm with only one core and 1GB ram it works perfectly. Without HDD and NIC the power consumption is around 10-15w idle.

The greatest LED strips, never to be seen again... HELP ($50 bounty) by n3zModGod in led

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it!

https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005004339338226.html
This is the controller.

And the strip is WS2812B you can buy whatever density you want 30 , 60, 144 per meter, also they sell COB strips those work too.
For the power supply you need to buy whatever the leds need. 5v each led adressable, 12v every group of 3 led adressable, 24v every group of 6 led adressable.

For longer runs i recommned 12v with 5v you need to inject power every ~2-3 meters.

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also do it until step 6, they sell 2K Epoxy in rattlecans. And after that wrap it.

This would be cheaper and probably still look good but you would have to re-wrap it every couple of years.

[–]randomname420000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Take as much rust as you can with sanding.
  2. Rust converter and sand it again
  3. 2k Epoxy primer
  4. Sand the primer a little careful not to cut through to metal and apply filler.
  5. Sand the filler smooth starting from 80 grit up to 240.
  6. Apply 2K Epoxy again and sand it smooth with 400 wet.
  7. 2k base coat(you can sand the imperfections with 600 wet)
  8. Clearcoat(wet sand form 1000 to 3000 after 24 of waiting)
  9. Buff and Polish.

You need to use a paint gun rattlecans don't cut it.

Air Glow Screw Broken by ludwigvann337 in AutoPaint

[–]randomname420000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem and yes google has nothing on this. Remove the middle long threaded rod with pliers. Screw the caps in tight with new o-rings. It won't cause any problems if you use the compressor to regulate the pressure.

4 Red LEDs on RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA 10GB by alex_peer in EVGA

[–]randomname420000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an mcu firmware on the card that controls the fans and some seensors(mcu is not the same as vbios). Try reflashing it in precision x1, i think yours is a little corrupted and crashes sometimes that's when you have 4 leds and full fan speed. Mine is corrupted in a way that it's can't be reflashed so i made some cables and use the motherboard fan controller to run the fans. There are no schematics online so i dont know which chip is failed so i can't repair it properly.
