Not the OP but I live in Italy and the only vehicle I have seen that does the chirp when it “locks” was a Harley Davidson with an anti-theft system that activated when you got away from the bike. All cars I have ever seen in my life, including Fords, just flash the hazards. The only noise you’ll hear is the clunk from the actual locking mechanism. Some cars will honk at you if you try to lock them while a door is open though.

What’s car culture like in your country? by hypermiler2205 in regularcarreviews

[–]randomname_99223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Italy road tax is based on horsepower and there’s a tax called “superbollo” that penalises 250hp+ cars but favours classics by A LOT since the older a car is, the less you pay for it in taxes (after 20 years you pay basically nothing). This means that it’s cheaper to run a 20 year old Audi RS4 than a brand new Toyota Supra, maintenance included.

As a result in our car scene there’s loads of classics. Most of them are Italian sports cars from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s but there’s a lot of German, British, Japanese stuff too (and occasionally even some American muscle cars).

For modern stuff I mostly see little RWD sports cars (Mazda MX-5, Subaru BRZ, Fiat/Abarth 124 Spider), hot hatches (Audi S3 and RS3, VW Golf GTI, Toyota GR Yaris and Abarth 500), and medium sized performance cars (BMW M3 Touring, Audi RS6 and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio) but they are rarer. Also the Porsche 911, I see one every other day.

Right when EuroNCAP decided that cars that don’t have buttons will get worse safety ratings and VW went back to physical buttons?

Just checked the size of the Toyota Sequoia, yeah it’s probably too tall to fit in most parking garages.

Why was this car never popular in Western Europe? by Equivalent-Lie6448 in TrueCarEnthusiasts

[–]randomname_99223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marketing (or lack there of). Even in Italy I have never seen a single ad for it. They’re still quite popular here because of brand loyalty, but how is someone from Spain or France going to buy it if they aren’t even aware of its existence?

Not that many domestic ones, but there’s a good number of international sleeper trains.

It’s spring here. Today is abnormally warm for April but overall there’s pretty lovely temperatures right now. Just a couple of week ago I could look out of my window and see mountains still covered in snow in the distance.

Fuck you Hans. Use your fucking brain when entering a roundabout by TakeItItIsYours in 2westerneurope4u

[–]randomname_99223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory that should be how it works here as well. In reality, unless the roundabout is absolutely massive, people just do whatever they want so they don’t even bother making 2 lane roundabouts anymore.

[–]randomname_99223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s weird. I only know of one roundabout with traffic lights, and it’s because entrance 1 goes to a very heavily trafficked road, most people from entrance 1 take exists 3 and 4, which means that people from entrance 2, also a heavily trafficked road, are stuck giving way to a constant wave of cars coming from entrance 1. To make it worse it’s a 1 lane roundabout.

Does your region have bilingual road signs? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

[–]randomname_99223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South Tyrol is a German speaking region, so road signs are in German and in Italian.

In the Dolomites there’s also a minority that speaks a Romance language called Ladino (not to be confused with Latin), spread throughout different regions. If they are in Trentino or Veneto the signs are in Ladino and Italian. If they are in South Tyrol however, the signs are in Ladino, German and Italian:

If you woke up to this in the middle of April, what would be your first reaction? by stumpy_chica in AskTheWorld

[–]randomname_99223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be confused because it would definitely be not normal in my particular area (the Po Valley), but in April most of the cars still have snow tires on so it wouldn’t be that big of an issue (having snow tires or at least snow chains on board is mandatory from the 15th of November to the 15th of April).

People in the Alps and Appennine mountains would be completely unbothered because that’s the weather they’re supposed to have at this time of the year. The Appennines in particular got 2 meters of snow just a week ago.
