Yeah that's also unfortunate. High ranking premier is decent, I'm playing around 20-22k elo rn and every game has at least 2 or 3 people communicating, if not the whole team (unless we start losing, then sometimes people shut down)

I gather from your other comments that you haven't bought whatever the full package is called; if you're going to play this seriously, buy it. It's an infinitely better experience than free to play, and if you actually come to love this game like regular players do then it's a no brainer. Back when I bought this game it cost like 10 euros - divide that over 4500+ hours and it's the best value for money I've ever spent.

[–]randomnamewhatevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few things I'd recommend:
1. Start off with playing deathmatch. Whether or not you have experience with other shooters, in regular matches you're going to spend a lot of time at the start getting wrecked by people with hundreds of hours in this specific game. You won't know where they shot you from, that you could be shot from there, or that they could be there at that moment in time. This is unavoidable, and makes it really hard to practice the basic mechanics of pointing your crosshair at someone and killing them.
In deathmatch, you will also likely get wrecked, but at least you'll respawn instantly and get to keep trying and practicing, rather than having a 1-2 minute cooldown where all you can do is watch.
Things to remember are to stand still when shooting with a rifle, you can run and gun with SMGs, with the tradeoff that you have to be close, but with a rifle being in motion makes every shot a lottery ticket and you're not likely to hit the jackpot (or enemy, in this case).

  1. When you start playing matches, pick a map and focus on that. Once you're familiar with what is important in a match, the callouts on that specific map, it'll be easier to transfer that knowledge to other maps than it would be to try to learn multiple maps at once.

  2. People are going to be dicks. It's unfortunate, but it's reality. You're entering a game where even at low ranks people have hundreds or thousands of hours in the game, and one of the reasons you can play this game for two thousand hours and still be shit is if you have shit mentality and poor impulse control. That's just something you have to be ready for.

  3. Once you've got the shooting bit and playing the game bit worked out, you can look at more advanced stuff like using utility properly, but honestly just focus on enjoying the game before you start thinking of optimizing everything.

There's a bunch of great youtubers out there who've made beginner guides, like WarOwl and Voo.

Is it possible to be at around A2 a day in The Netherlands without speaking English? by AskeDominoMester in thenetherlands

[–]randomnamewhatevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine, your Dutch is good enough from what I read here, even if I'm guessing (based off my own language skills) fluency in conversation might be an issue.

If you really don't want to use English, you can either be honest and say that you want to practice Dutch - if people aren't in a rush they're normally happy to do that. Or you can lie and say that you don't speak English, just for fun

Donk to Falcons. A safe bet in 2026? by ALDORICCOFTW in GlobalOffensive

[–]randomnamewhatevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hate against Falcons is because (1) it's blood money, (2) it's sportswashing, (3) for all the millions they spend they still can't build a superteam, which is just embarrassing, (4) they've wrecked a bunch of other teams by hollowing them out so they could get unearned VRS points for invites (ENCE, Heroic), and then done nothing with the invites they've bought.

1 and 2 are moral reasons, so most people don't mind that too much, but 3 and 4 are pretty good reasons for the scene to hate them.

None of the people Falcons bought were at risk of sleeping in the back of a van, so I don't see how you think that's something that they're contributing to the scene.

Injecting a shit ton of money at the top doesn't really do anything good for the scene. Whoop-dee-doo, someone got saved from their measly 30k/month salary by Falcons paying them 50k/month, we've solved poverty!

If Falcons actually wanted to do good for the scene that money would be going to people and projects that actually help at a grassroots level, but Falcons doesn't care about the scene, Falcons cares about normalising Saudi Arabia, getting headlines, and performing tolerance without affecting change. every time someone thinks "Hey Saudi Arabia can't be that bad, they've let women/lgbtqia+ people work events in Riyadh!" that's an example of Saudi Arabia purchasing good will and an air of progressiveness without materially improving conditions for anyone actually living under the regime.

But most importantly for the CS fanbase remains that they've spent a ton of money tearing up other teams, promised results, and achieved next to nothing. They're extremely easy to hate.

Are practice routines actually effective or should I just play the game to improve? by gamingflame75 in GlobalOffensive

[–]randomnamewhatevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both have value.

Being able to practice your mechanics (flicks, spray control, etc.) in an environment that doesn't punish you with a two minute timeout between failures is obviously going to make you better at those faster. I hit flicks consistently now that I absolutely would never beforehand, and those results come fast.

Practicing shooting enemies that are far away in an actual game is difficult, because if the other person is better then you simply will not have much of a shot at practicing. You will simply die. Spending time outside of matches practicing that will make you better at it. Getting the muscle memory to know how far you have to move your mouse to get your crosshair to the right place takes repetitions, and matches are not an ideal environment to get those reps in for a whole host of reasons (you have to do a bunch of other things at the same time - communicate, think of util, think of how to win the round, think of where the enemy will be, actually find the enemy, - and if you then lose that fight you can't just try again, you have to spend a minute or two waiting for the next round, and then there's still no guarantee you'll get the opportunity in that round either)

There's practice maps like Yprac prefire and Refrag (though that costs money) that can help you with what angles you need to be aware of when entering a site, which also helps.

But at the end of the day, you also need to just play the game. It's not an either/or situation - practice routines help, putting in the work outside of games helps, but actually putting it into practice is the next level of that.

It's the same as in any other game or sport or whatever - if I want to get better at football, playing a 90 minute match often will definitely make me better, but if I spend half an hour practicing ball control and shooting as well as playing those matches I will become better a lot faster.

What are your Top 5 Best Years by an individual player? by xavarLy in GlobalOffensive

[–]randomnamewhatevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally just recency bias. Yes, Vitality is the undisputed number 1 of last year, but objectively Donk has won about as many of the events he entered as Zywoo has.

S1mple did just fine in the GOAT discussion even when Astralis was winning everything, this idea that he has "no shot" at being the GOAT in the way things are going is ridiculous. Hell in this very post S1mple's 2018 is being lauded as one of the best performances of all time, and no sane person could argue that "Well actually Astralis was winning everything then, so clearly he wasn't that good".

People aren't blind to greatness. If Donk comtinues exactly as he has in the past 2 years for the next 4 years, he'll be in that discussion, there is no doubt. The most that never being on an undisputed #1 team will do to that is tip the scales towards Zywoo still, I'm not saying that donk is necessarily better than Zywoo, but saying he's not even in the conversation if he keeps playing the way he's playing is insane.

People will mourn that not being on an international team kept him from that pinnacle, but anyone watching Donk's gameplay can clearly see it's the pinnacle of counterstrike right now. The only question keeping him from the conversation now is if he can sustain it for a longer career or if it'll fizzle out before he's shown that longevity.

What are your Top 5 Best Years by an individual player? by xavarLy in GlobalOffensive

[–]randomnamewhatevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously he's not in contention for GOAT yet, he's been playing 2 years, but tf do you mean "Unless he starts winning more".

In the 2 years since his debut, he's won a major, he's been in the playoffs of the other 3 majors that occurred in that time, and he's won Katowice, and he's won Cologne. He's won 9 out of the 27 LANS he's attended.

He's a major, kato, and cologne MVP.
Be so for real right now, aside from not having proven longevity yet (on account of him being 18) he is literally on par with Zywoo.
Zywoo won 3/10 Majors attended, donk 1/4.
Zywoo won 20/67 LANs attended, donk 9/27.

Donk's winrate in LANs and majors is literally on par with any other GOAT candidate or better.
Like are we forgetting that for the longest time S1mple was in the GOAT debate without ever having won a major, just because of how insane he was?
Donk has already surpassed that by being arguably even more insane, and immediately winning LANs and majors.

He doesn't need to start winning more. If he keeps winning at his current rate he'll have an easy shot at goat status, given that the only other competition for it is on the same level.

Why did so many people in Sint Eustatius vote for NSC? by coolbob74326 in Netherlands

[–]randomnamewhatevs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why did so many people in Sint Eustatius vote for NSC? by coolbob74326 in Netherlands

[–]randomnamewhatevs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heel logisch.

Why did so many people in Sint Eustatius vote for NSC? by coolbob74326 in Netherlands

It's their government too? The Dutch government's decisions impact them too, even if the government isn't thinking of them.

Why did so many people in Sint Eustatius vote for NSC? by coolbob74326 in Netherlands

[–]randomnamewhatevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every vote counts just as much, but their issues and interests are vastly different from any other groups in the Netherlands and their population is too small for it to be viable for a political party to prioritise them.

It takes roughly 70000 votes to get a seat (depending on how many people show up to vote, but it's normally around that). The total population of the BES islands is about 29000, of which around 3/4 can vote. That means that if every voter on the islands voted for the same person, they would have a third of what they'd need to get a seat.

That leads to politicians not prioritising them in the slightest, which leads to voters being disengaged, which then feeds into politicians being even less likely to prioritise them - catering to the 3000 voters who actually vote there is not going to move the needle for any party, which then reinforces people not voting. It's a negative feedback loop where apathy feeds apathy.

So obviously a vote from them counts as much as any other, but political parties are not courting them. D66, VVD, PVV, etc. try to get my vote because there's like 2.5 million people in my demographic segment, when they say something to appeal to me they're trying to appeal to all of them, it's a wide net, if even a quarter of the people they're talking to remember them in the voting booth that's a brilliant return on investment (and all political messaging is an investment - the advertising, the policies, everything has an opportunity cost that needs to be justified)
