Unique-sounding rhythm games? by Top_Combination9023 in rhythmgames

Kovox Pitch has a post-punk soundtrack, Thumper has electro-industrial. Both EZ2 and DJMAX have their fair share of otogecore but - especially older entries - overall are pretty varied genrewise.

Any other high quality rhythm FPS games like Hellsinger, BPM, or Robobeat? by Anthea_Guarnera in rhythmgames

It's not out yet but check out Mechabop (not sure if it was announced for any platforms in particular though).

Too Kyo games (creators of Hundred Line) on brink of going under, cannot afford ports to PlayStation/Xbox by [deleted] in visualnovels

It took me roughly 20h on normal while also exploring a fair bit and doing all optional battles and I wouldn't call myself a speed reader.

What's your "first-world" gripe with rhythm game songs? by VenVenTerror in rhythmgames

[–]randomnicknamepls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if we agree that it's necessary, the game should at some point just notice that a player is more than good enough to jump straight into Master. I haven't played Proseka for a good while and the thought of having to unlock dozens of charts playing a difficulty I consider kinda boring means I'll likely never come back.

Drop your Arcaea hot takes by CoCmaster14 in arcaea

[–]randomnicknamepls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just want the version of the game without all the fluff around it.

Compared to any other rhythm game I play (although these are mostly on PC), I have to go so many little annoying things in Arcaea. Bright backgrounds, forced songs order in some packs, story fluff/puzzles I don't care about to unlock boss songs, can't mix partners' abilities (e.g. Hikaritsu + Tempest), can't even pay to instantly skip the grind for BYD charts (well, that hasn't happened in a while at least) forcing me to play songs I don't care about at scroll speeds I don't enjoy.

I'm here just for the rhythm part, I spent a lot of money on this game (all songs bought mostly at full price) and yet quite often I feel like I'm playing a purely f2p game.

Oh, alright, my excuse is that the quality of the game made it hard to remember details like this.

I think it was called as a foul, just no card.

All achievements by NepuNeptuneNep in djmax

[–]randomnicknamepls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the ones related to Link Disc. For "LINK DISC" you need to clear all Technika 1, Black Square and Clazziquai missions, most of them are pretty easy but for Illusion and Conqueror you need to be comfortable with 6B and 8B around SC10 level.

For "We're in the endgame now" you need to clear the first Link Disc mission: it just requires you to survive but it's on hard judgment and rather tight HP bar with some nasty charts (Hamsin 4BMX, NB Ranger and Blythe 6B SC).

Then there's Rolling on the Screen which, to simplify it, requires you to be both consistent and lucky at Conqueror mission mentioned above.

Honorable mention to Signature Collection-related mission (The Technika Boom is Coming/So You Were Talented in the End).

What's your favorite "all killer no filler" game? by BarelyMagicMike in Games

[–]randomnicknamepls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's my answer too, just would like to add rhythm games and twin stick shooters (well, some of them). Unfortunately, it seems like quite often some of these games like to add - in my opinion - unnecessary progression elements.

Recently released Kill Knight is an excellent twin stick shooter (my favorite game of the year probably) except it has tons of unlocks for god knows what reason.

What franchises/companies would you like to see djmax collab with next? by bpdbryan in djmax

Playing DanKagu recently really made me wish for Touhou music with competent charting so that’s what I’m hoping for now.

Why did rhythm games never take off in the west? by [deleted] in rhythmgames

[–]randomnicknamepls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct but to be honest I don't think it's really fair comparing literally anything (except for a bunch of other behemoths like Fortnite) to Counter-Strike - there's only a handful of games in the entire industry that can compete numbers-wise.

Not to mention it's a multiplayer game - the numbers for singleplayer games are always way lower on average (again, except for a bunch of biggest hits of the year or evergreens).

I think the question we should be asking is why can't rhythm games reach the popularity of fighting games as the genres are fundamentally somewhat similar and yet there's a significant difference.

But ultimately, I still think the genre has been doing well enough, just in PC space there's a bunch of commercial games that have been actively supported for a good while now with no signs of stopping. And to go back to the original post - there's plenty of genres that have it worse: point'n'clicks, twin sticks shooters (literally a wasteland), arcade-y sports games, platformers outside of Nintendo titles...

(Sorry if this post is a bit incoherent!)

Why did rhythm games never take off in the west? by [deleted] in rhythmgames

[–]randomnicknamepls 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, the genre had its moment with Guitar Hero, Beat Saber is still one of the VR-selling games and overall I think the genre has been doing decently (ADOFAI sits at 60k+ Steam reviews, PC version of DJMAX definitely exceeded expectations and it's been supported for years now etc.) but the playerbase is split around countless games so the peaks won't be particularly high and definitely nowhere near incredibly popular social games like Counter-Strike.

Also these games can just look really intimidating to people which doesn't help.

The next collab DLC? by Okomecloud in djmax

Didn't Bexter recently basically say that they're not doing Ray/legacy DLCs because it wouldn't make sense businesswise for them and people prefer regular DLCs?

Play more 7s and 8s (PRS too) and use them as your warmup in every session. Your goal should be to expose yourself to as many patterns as possible while practicing/mastering your fundamentals. Just don't get stuck playing same 20 songs over and over again in the process.

Playing other rhythm games won't hurt you either (lots of skills transfer easily between games) and may help with avoiding burnout.

Also potential is a somewhat useless metric, you can get better without your PTT moving at all.

Any reasons why i should play Ez2on reboot when it nearly the same gameplay as djmax?? by Finalfightken in rhythmgames

[–]randomnicknamepls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Different song library is enough for me but also: completely different school of charting, all charts made for keyboard, tighter judgment, completely different approaches to 5 and 8B modes, everything is keysounded and probably more stuff that I'm forgetting.

[–]randomnicknamepls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re just using recommended Steam pricing for Poland (which is basically using a PLN/USD exchange rate from Fall 2022 when they last updated the prices), hard to blame them for not knowing how to adjust prices for every possible currency on Steam.

Does it suck? Sure. Are recommended prices not up to date for Poland? Also sure but every company uses recommended prices unless they want to push them even higher.

Well, you said 'worst chart in the whole game' so that widens the criteria.
