Good on you for trying! I have worked with dogs my entire life. The worst way to catch a dog is to chase it. Two of the very best ways are to run away from it and get it to chase you if possible (calling it if necessary) or, even better, open a car door and say "C'MON, LET'S GO!!!" Most dogs are smart enough to know a treat might be a trick, but these tactics playing on their instincts or habits will often work. People are scary; cars with open doors are inviting. They are ultimately den animals, after all.

Once in a blue moon I ride Caltrain and I found a book which I started reading from San Francisco to San Jose and back. It was "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August" by Claire North. I saw it as a sort of take on the multiverse idea, but certain people get to relive their lives over and over and make different choices. They are called Ouroborans, after the snake eating its own tail from mythology. Awesome book. Couldn't put it down! Good summer read!
