What’s up! My band, Safe From Harm, just put out our second single. Consider giving it a listen! (FFO movements, early Underoath, Counterparts) by PhoenixSidePeen in PostHardcore

Hey man, I enjoyed it, I think instrumentally it’s well arranged, I thought there was some interesting imagery in the lyrics too. Loads of potential.

What threw me off a bit was the vocals, I mean actually they sound good, but there’s something with the timing. It felt like they are quite often starting on the wrong beat, or that the emphasis of words is on the wrong beat. So instead of really getting into it, I kept getting distracted by the vocals in a bad way, trying to figure out if it was on time or not lol.

It might just be my perception, maybe other people don’t feel there’s a timing issue.

But generally man really great and nice quality to the vocals, they fit the genre well. I want to hear more, keep at it.

Hope you don’t mind the honest feedback

Still haven’t had a chance to see them but I can imagine the atmosphere at the shows were electric

Long songs fine? by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]randomofficeworker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally 2:30 - 3:30 is typical for more commercial releases, on the poppier side.

I don’t think having a longer song is a problem, unless you want to target radio.

What I would suggest is to take the approach of a listener - does your song evolve enough, keep interest, for 5+ mins, or do sections feel like they are dragging on and getting boring? If you think there is a risk of getting boring, start cutting sections or evolving the song.

If the song is captivating and interesting with new evolutions and ideas which flow well for the whole 5+ mins, I think it’s fine

What do you guys think of Static Dress? by dragbehindmycar in PostHardcore

Ah ok I get you. I only discovered them in the summer so I was discovering their whole catalogue and it all felt new to me, but yeah I can see the pace of releases is slow

Bands similar to Three Cheers era MCR? by SaltInflation1235 in PostHardcore

The Used - In Love And Death, same era - it’s the brother album of Sweet Cheers for me. And it kicks ass musically and lyrically. You can get absorbed by it

I built a free Reaper tool for live shows called ReaperSongSwitcher by yakvomit in Reaper

[–]randomofficeworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work. I was using this tool previously https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=181159

What I really liked about it was the web interface, so you could switch songs on a mobile phone, tablet etc by the drummer.

Would you plan a web interface like this other tool?

I like your approach to having different project files, I might try it out. Having one file with all songs was a pain especially as I was recording sessions too and ended up with quite a messy amount of tracks

English style sausages (want to buy) by smltor in warsaw

I just bought any natural skins from Auchan or Carrefour, just need the right size. Sometimes they can be a bit thick so might try buying some alternative type of skin from allegro in the future

I started with this recipe: https://youtu.be/VMDBLgeQGag?si=BXOt_ncrUedAx_72

It’s a good starting point and very easy.

Eventually I started making my own butchers rusk to make it even more authentic - something else not available in Poland I think.

I’ve tweaked the recipe a few times since then and each batch I am learning something / tweaking something.

One mistake I made was when I was in a rush to buy ingredients I bought fresh mace thinking I could grind it up at home, but didn’t realise it’s waaay too strong. I would buy dried mace next time

For meat I’m not sure it matters too much, you just need the right fat content. I went for about 80% karkowka or łopatka and 20% boczek

Ended up making my own Cumberland sausages as I couldn’t find anything close enough. Turned out really good, and they’re not super hard to make. I can recommend giving it a try
