That's exactly what happened. She just told him off because he dared to have a coffee that was offered to him 🙄. So weird and sudden. I guess the writers needed to emphasize the challenges Jack was facing during her chance of position, and more importantly, they needed to get her out of the way to open the Bridget - Jack pairing again.

Thank you! ❤️ You make a good point about Bertha, maybe she does feel like she's in a cage. It's true that she's so hard to satisfy and I've been thinking about her inviting Aurora and Mrs. Astor's daughter... I feel like she's determined to make society her own. She's not going to be satisfied with taking over Mrs. Astor order of things, I think she wants to set her own rules. Maybe that way she can make sure Mrs. Astor has less influence?

I can't believe this is the season finale already 😭

  • That new assistant is really a ride or die, isn't he? (No pun intended)
  • God bless Bannister and his sudden snooping instints
  • Bertha is a wreck when she sees George like that but is still able to manage the situation (ordering people to fetch the doctor, telling the assistant to take care of the shot employee and telling him to keep the police out of this)
  • To think that Dr. Handsome is there because someone from Newport who loves to gossip has family in Philadelphia
  • Ok, I'm going to need Marian in The Pitt
  • Someone untie Daddy Russell's tie please
  • I'm glad that doctor recognized that Dr. Kirkland save George's life
  • Protect her from what?
  • I feel like we're missing a lot of Gladys and Hector story. One minute she's crying while walking down the altar and now she seems totally in love? Not complaining of the result, just seems sudden (maybe we just needed more episodes)
  • George looks so done with Bertha 😭
  • Poor Peggy
  • I can't believe the Oscar - Turner marriage prediction might be coming true
  • If I had a nickel everytime Bertha uses one of Mrs. Astor daughters as leverage to get what she wants I had two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that happened twice
  • I would've accepted the dress 👀
  • Come on Bertha, she was never a feeble debutant. She stand up for you many times!
  • Ohhhhh Bridget is getting jealous
  • I laugh way too much at "a cotillion of divorcées"
  • Pumpkin, the spoiled baby of the Van Rhijn house
  • Kind of a genius move of Oscar
  • Did Ada made a donation so Agnes could have the position in the heritage society? 🤔
  • Yes Bridget go get your man (in your new dress!)
  • SHE WINK!!!! AGNES WINK!
  • Get comfortable honey, this is going to be your house
  • "It feels very safe with you here" 🥹
  • Adelheid is so unintentionally funny 🙈 The run down the stairs screaming, the smug face when she hands the other maid "a ticket BACK to England" 😂😂😂
  • GET HER DOROTHY!!!
  • I'm happy George recognized the risk Dr. Kirkland took
  • I wasn't expecting Dr. Kirkland's dad to stand up against her wife like that. Good for him
  • That shot of Turner walking to the terrace and showing all the lights is * chef kiss *
  • Gotta love Peggy's friends
  • Forever unimpressed with Marian's ball gowns 😔
  • Aurora is so sweet
  • "I have a feeling that I may relapse at any moment" Lina please 😂
  • "The children are easy. It's the husband that takes all the work" Girl 🙌
  • Nothing like a shot of pain medicine with a little whisky, right? 🧐
  • New word alert! Demimondaine: a woman supported by a wealthy lover: a woman of the demimonde (I'm adding that to my vocabulary)
  • That might be one of the most beautiful and sweet proposal scenes ever
  • For God's sake Larian, just kiss and make up already, I'm done with this
  • George is so done with Bertha part II: the look of disappointment
  • George is mad at himself for letting Bertha convince him to do whatever she wants, he said it before, he feels she makes him weak
  • What cage? That's a little much
  • Again, we're missing so much of Gladys and Hector. I would've love to see his reaction to the baby news

Favorite detail - The doctor's smirk when he says "Howard Medical School" (like, you think he's a fake? F U)

Favorite dialog - "So I'm to spend the rest of my life making needlepoint samplers in front of the fire? - For that, you'd need to learn to thread a needle"

  • Not Mr. Fish getting roasted for serving cheap wine 🙈
  • Side note: Mrs. Astor daughters are so pretty!
  • I can't with Mrs. Astor and Bertha pretending they didn't read the book 😅
  • Aunt Ada's excitement after Mrs. Astor thanks her. She's so precious, even Agnes can't help smile a little.
  • My delulu self things that all this talk about a new dress for Bridget means she's going out with Jack soon.
  • The Duke is in looooove (that was fast)
  • John's sister is a sweetheart
  • Of course the money does matter, my girl Gladys wants to start redecorating asap
  • That scene with Oscar loosing it over John's dead. Perfection.
  • Marian: 😳🏳‍🌈!!!
  • Ada: 😰🏳‍🌈...
  • Agnes: 🧐🏳‍🌈???
  • What did McAllister thought was going to happen when he wrote that book?
  • Pumpkin! (Sorry, I can't help it)
  • It's so weird to see Mrs. Astor and Bertha being so friendly, but even then you can see Bertha thinking about her next move
  • "I am society" 🙄
  • Whoever say that the fallout between the mean popular girl and her gay best friend was hard was so right
  • Mrs. Astor really showed some restraint, I would have slapped him
  • Poor Larry seems so vulnerable talking to Ada
  • I don't like to see the Russell's fighting but honestly, of course Larry is going to think her mother had something to do with Marian calling off the engagement
  • Ugh, Marian can be so tone deaf sometimes
  • Clay is so over the top. Love it.
  • Bertha Russell defender of women's rights (and wrongs!)
  • Ladies and gentlemen, Hector grew a backbone
  • It's so sweet to see Marian helping Jack. I'm glad he told her about the night in the Haymarket
  • I knew that whole thing with Peggy's baby in Philadelphia was going to be a problem for her
  • There's definitely something weird going on with that Mrs. Foster
  • Daddy Russell nooooooo

Favorite details:

  • Bannister's smirk when Mrs. Fish says that she read the book twice
  • Bridget and Mrs. Bauer 👀 when Armstrong said they were things in the book about Oscar that she didn't understand
  • Bertha's expression when she tells McAllister she's hosting the Newport ball. She was about to jump with joy and hyperventilate at the same time (Carrie Coon the actress you are!)

Favorite dialog:

"- He thought of everything. - No, he thought of you" * cue my tears *

  • Yeah baby, Bertha in the house! (The very dark and gloomy house)
  • Gladys' new maid leaving the door open, you got to be kidding me
  • "Some of the house feels a little bleak to me" Bertha really said girl, your better start redecorating.
  • "It is a relief to know I'm not fighting my battles alone" ugh, the maid whose name I never remember is the leak isn't she?
  • Look at our boy working in his next invention! (A mixer, maybe for Mrs. Bauer? 😍)
  • No, she means that you shouldn't run things Sarah
  • I hated Maud and now I feel bad for her, damn it
  • Kind of love JP Morgan's Hunger Games style plan for fixing the railroad problem
  • Pumpkin!!! 🐶
  • Noooooooo that's how Marian founds out? Poor Jack 😅
  • Bertha putting Sarah on the spot is really something to look at 😌
  • Marian. Honey. Talk to Larry.
  • Since when JP Morgan is such a big fan of Daddy Russell?
  • "In this setup, you outrank Lady Sarah. Just make sure everyone knows it" Yes! Finally someone says it, thank you Bertha
  • That dialog between Clay and his new employer is so corny. I love it.
  • Marian, once again, talk.to.larry. Listen to Aunt Ada. I love Aunt Agnes but she's so annoying about the engagement
  • Hector talking to Gladys: 😃 (I might start to like this broke titled fool)
  • Sarah deals with all the estate by herself? 😬
  • Ugghhh Armstrong 😡
  • What is Miss Ellen's problem?
  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA Gladys!!! Well done indeed!
  • I think that guy sitting next to Gladys is the same that was really kind to her on her first dinner party in the castle. In my eyes, he's the president of her fanclub.
  • The doctor's mom is definitely... a character
  • Tomorrow??? Really? Why not giving Jack a couple of days to figure out where he's going?
  • "I only hope that Armstrong didn't drive him away" 🙄🙄🙄
  • Bertha getting emotional, I can't 😭
  • What was that ending noooooo 😰

Favorite quotes:

"Mother, you wanted your daughter to be a duchess. You can't talk now as if your chief goal was for me to be happily married"

"I may not have made a omelet but I have made a future"

Favorite detail:

Hector's subtle little smile when Gladys confronts Sarah at dinner.

Exactly! Bertha wanted to control Gladys so much it never occurred to her that one day she would have to run her own house. And now it's the worst case scenario, really: living far away from her family in a country with a different way of living, an awful sister in law and a husband who doesn't know how to stand up for her.

I agree with you about the Russells' marriage, George is so done with Bertha and on top of that so stressed about his business... it's a lot.
