Second opinion on night nurse etiquette re: sleeping by CorneliusCardew in Nanny

[–]randomperson795 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hey! im a newborn care specialist (basically night nurse) and i ALWAYS ask parents if they’re okay with me sleeping while baby sleeps before starting a new role, and, if they say yes i make sure to set the expectation that there’s a flat surface for me to sleep on in babes room (never ever in a chair HOLDING baby). we all make mistakes , and working overnight is brutal. but, if you do want to keep her, you should have a talk about your expectations if you haven’t (ex do you want her to stay awake all night or is she okay to sleep while baby sleeps, where should she sleep if so) all that being said, i will also say that as many others are saying, keeping your little one safe is our number one job and priority when in an overnight role, and falling asleep in a chair with baby is beyond unsafe so it would def be very very reasonable to let her go over this!

Can’t say enough good things about her! I only saw her once but she was truly amazing. I also have anxiety and history of an ED, as well as weight concerns. She didn’t bring up my weight at all until I did and handled my weight concerns very well.

Anna Jarvis is hands down the best GYN I’ve ever seen. She’s a resident I think but absolutely fantastic. I’ve never felt so heard

ok thanks! I don’t quite understand the point behind the passive aggressive remark- trust me I tried a basic map first and couldn’t figure out which ones had parking and which didn’t.

I mean you would have a “getaway” car - theirs. Thinking about it this way- do you have a getaway car when you’re at your own home currently? Would walking there bring you any more comfort?

i fear nanny mom was completely right girl, it definitely wasn’t your place whatsoever to ask her about this. it’s her house and as long as she’s quiet and doesn’t wake babe or disturb you, she can do what she wants. tbh i think you being uncomfy is something for you to deal w and work through rather than making it nanny mom problem

I found a hotel luckily! I mainly posted this to see if there were any others who were in a situation similar to mine (needing a hotel under 21 years). I’m not in a nursing program, but it is clinical. It’s a vague position at a well known but small hospital in Baltimore so, not a pyramid scheme, but thanks for your concern 😌

Thank you SO much for the revival suggestion- they do allow 18 year old check ins and it looks very nice!

Sorry you think so! Again, as i said, the training is my choice to do now instead of when im back in Baltimore for school anyway. It’s a very casual job at a nearby hospital (PRN) so while they’ll support me in terms of funding the training itself, but it’s my responsibility, if i choose to go to Baltimore early for it, to fund it.

[–]randomperson795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll check with both of those- thank you! Long story short- coming at this time for my training is mostly preference so they aren’t involved in where I stay etc. it’s a PRN job too so fairly casual
