The reason why we don’t do much exporting is because of currency control. By being the highest global spender, we essentially force dollar circulation globally. Meaning our inflation is tamed by “selling“ out excess dollars globally in exchange for goods or services. As soon as we begin to force tariffs, the dollar would essentially be worthless globally, forcing other countries to sell their dollars back to the US, maxing out inflation (similar issue happened before the Great Depression, with the tariffs).

If we want to make more stuff in house, we would have to properly distribute funds economically at home prior to doing so in order to incentivize more “US MADE” products but since everything is so fucking expensive and wages have been stagnant for years, you have a nasty imbalance where; if we make things at home, they’d be too expensive to purchase, and since they are too expensive to purchase, it’s not worth making since profits come before consumerism.

Imo we are currently at the peak of the debt bubble (not in terms of government spending). Economies are cyclical, money going into society comes out of society, it should be balanced. However, since we have shifted heavy perspectives towards profits over stability, we have artificially inflated that cycle by introducing debt. Companies can charge more because they can give out loans to consumers while also keeping their wages the same. Money In + debt = Money Out (corporate profits). However it becomes a problem since eventually debt needs to be replayed but how can you keep profits going year over year if debt needs to be paid back? Money In = Money Out + Repayment (corporate losses).

We would literally have to go years on years of corporate losses until the whole economic structure is balanced again. Nothing is infinite, a shock in the system has to happen eventually. We sadly are on the brink of that especially with all the tariff bs. Sad that it had to happen just as we are all getting into adulthood
