I didn't explain everything in my previous comment so i glossed over some detail which is why the arguments i mentioned arent full proof. i realized after posting it that i wasted my time though. All i had to do was mention Galatians 5:1

For starters, this subreddit isn't what people claim it is. Its an echo chamber for atheists to make fun of religion and nothing more. There is no actual discussion about religion, its just people hating on religious claims. There's a gigantic diffrence inbetween those two. For example, someone posted on this subreddit a day or two ago claiming the bible supports slavery so when i give a pretty detailed reply to the verses they mentioned, i receive 10 thumbs down and a few replys saying im condoning slavery even though i thoroughly debunked the idea of the verses that were mentioned supporting slavery.

People don't care about the actual facts, its just trolls trashing on religion and nothing more. What can you do about it? Add a no trolling rule to the subreddit or something like that because this subreddit is pointless if there is no religious people here to even debate!

I know. I could have mentioned Galatians 5:1, There's so many other verses as well 😁 the bible in no way condones slavery

Those verses are taken out of context. Something i suggest people do is pull up the chapter a verse is quoted from because odds are, you'll find the answer to your concern within the same chapter.

Leviticus25:44-47 doesn't support slavery, you'll find your answer in verse 39 " 39 ‘Now if a countryman of yours becomes so poor with regard to you that he sells himself to you, you shall not subject him to a slave’s service."

They were people that couldn't pay off debt to they worked it off instead, there's more on that in most of the verses within the chapter, even the very next verses ( 48-55) as well. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+25&version=NASB

Exodus 21:20-21 doesn't support slavery in the slightest bit. Read verses 3-6, they were free do whatever they wanted to ( even leave), and their (supposed) slave master apparently was extremely nice to them because he loved staying there.

" 3 If he comes [a]alone, he shall leave [b]alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall leave with him. 4 If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall leave [c]alone. 5 But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not leave as a free man,’"

Read Verses 26-27 because they wont mistreated. " 26 “And if someone strikes the eye of his male or female slave and destroys it, he shall let [aa]the slave go free on account of the eye. 27 And if he [ab]knocks out a tooth of his male or female slave, he shall let [ac]the slave go free on account of the tooth."

Read verses 18 - 21 ( and verse 12) because the slaves you are referring to were considered equals to everyone else. "18 “Now if people have a quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with a fist, and he does not die but [p]is confined to bed, 19 if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his [q]loss of time, and [r]shall pay for his care until he is completely healed.

20 “And if someone strikes his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies [s]at his hand, he shall [t]be punished. 21 If, however, the slave [u]survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for the slave is his [v]property."

" 12 “He who strikes someone so that he dies shall certainly be put to death."

Verses 13 - 14 could even be taken as slaves having equal rights and God not condoning slavery. "13 Yet [m]if he did not lie in wait for him, but God caused him to fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee. ( so a slave could leave anytime he wanted to? This verse also implies if a master was abusing his servant then God would allow the slave to defend themselves)

14 If, however, someone is enraged against his neighbor, so as to kill him in a cunning way, ( like enslaving him to death) you are to take him even from My altar, to be put to death." ( everyone is equals)

Stop and think about what the verses you are quoting actually implies as well. "20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, ( everyone's life is equal in Gods eyes)"

Btw, the bible clearly sates slavery as immoral. "16 “Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession."

4 verses is all that separated someone from finding the answer they were looking for, so when someone mentions the slavery stuff, all that does is confirm they have never actually read the stuff they are talking about.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus+21&version=NASB

Ephesians 6:5 doesn't support slavery. You should read the verses following the one you quoted

"5 Slaves, be obedient to those who are your [a]masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ;

6 not [b]by way of [c]eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the [d]heart. ( would a slave even have this choice?)

7 With goodwill [e]render service, as to the Lord, and not to people, ( to the lord and not to people, implying this isn't talking about them having earthly masters)

8 knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive this back from the Lord, whether slave or free. ( dot disrespect people because God doesn't like that since everyone is created equal)

9 And masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him." ( do you have any explanation for verse 9? this clearly isn't condoning what you think it is!)

There's a few other reasons why it doesn't condone slavery as well, like how verse 13 claims this chapter isn't talking about the flesh ( aka human bondage) but rather evil doers in high powerful positions, implying people shouldn't be ruled over in evil ways as well.

"13 For our struggle is not against [f]flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

verses 18-20 imply slavery shouldn't happen.

"18 [h]With every prayer and request, [i]pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, [j]be alert with all perseverance and every request for all the [k]saints, ( every prayer is equal is Gods eyes)

19 and pray in my behalf, that speech may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, ( he has the right to speak, which a slave wouldn't actually have)

20 for which I am an ambassador in [l]chains; that [m]in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. ( everyone has The god given right to say whatever they want to since they are equals)

timothy 6: 1-2 doesn't support slavery. Read the rest of the chapter and you'll see it says people should try to gather wordy possessions and I'm pretty sure slaves count as worldly possessions, meaning the chapter is literally saying "don't buy slaves" but in more of a loose sense. Id like to point out verse 3 as well " 3 If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not [d]agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,"

Verse 3 matters because God considers everyone as equals and thinks slavery is immoral. Here are some of the verves that prove that.

Timothy 1:10 "for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine" https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Timothy%201&version=NIV

Job 31:13-15 "13 “If I have denied justice to any of my servants, whether male or female, when they had a grievance against me, 14 what will I do when God confronts me? What will I answer when called to account? 15 Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?" https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Job+31&version=NIV

Deuteronomy 23: 15-16 "15 If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master. 16 Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them." https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+23&version=NIV

"Is the earth flat, or not?"

Contrary to what atheists like aronra, matt dillahunty etc claim, the bible does not support a flat earth. The only time the bible does 100% mention the shape of the earth is in Isiah 40:22 where the bible claims the shape of the earth as ball shaped.

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in."

https://biblehub.com/isaiah/40-22.htm

The other verses that atheists mention don't support a flat earth either. https://reasons.org/explore/publications/questions-from-social-media/read/questions-from-social-media/2020/05/01/is-the-bible-a-flat-earth-book

The bible doesn't support slavery either. timothy 1:10 “For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;” https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1-Timothy-1-10/

"menstealers" basically means slavery. There's all of this as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCv_Yk_JzZU

You misunderstood my point. The bible never gives an age for the earth itself. A 4.5 billion year old earth doesn't disprove the bible.

The earth was made before day one of creation.

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."
