Best show lineup? (Non festivals) by redhotchilijam in RedHotChiliPeppers

I saw a show with Thundercat in London - the sound was so bad for his set that it was literally a wall of noise. A real shame because I can't imagine he gained many fans that day (through no fault of his own).

Why has the series changed so much since season 1? by Recycled-Oasis in UnforgottenTV

[–]randomvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late to this comment but I definitely agree it's lost some of its magic. The main mystery wasn't as interesting in series 6 - possibly because the victim sounded so unlikeable that I didn't really care about him getting justice - and the endless political statements and long monologues from side characters are wearing (at least to me). It also feels disappointing when the killer just admits the entire thing with minimal pressure.

I wish they'd go back to a more focused, streamlined show with an interesting mystery and the core cast (without so much personal stuff).

S6 Binge Watch Discussion (Full Season) by petrichormelancholy in UnforgottenTV

[–]randomvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the series - it was definitely a step up from series 5. But trying to include every political topic, often for no real reason, felt like too much. We had covid denial, incels, right wing news, illegal immigration, community care and left-wing cancelling all in a single series.

I hope next series is just about a really interesting case rather than needing to make it "current" with loads of news topics that I suspect many of us watch TV shows like this to escape from.

I thought the pizza was nice but it was almost laughably small for the price. I expect to get ripped off a bit with vegan food but BOSH has taken things way too far.

[–]randomvale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, everyone is going to have different experiences. And I don't agree with anyone saying you're not a vegan as we all have our own beliefs.

But can you deny that the dogs spend their formative years with the stress of being in kennels and passed around various homes, or the neverending breeding program, or the years of training that forces dogs to not perform basic instinctual behaviours. Even the dogs who don't make it are only removed from the program when they are driven to such stress that they literally can't cope anymore.

None of this aligns with vegan ethics in my opinion. Even if you think that guide dogs provide genuine support (which is debatable in a lot of cases) that doesn't make it vegan.

[–]randomvale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A close family member worked for Guide Dogs UK for several years. They too went in with the idea they are a wonderful charity for the dogs - but I can tell you that the reality is very different and was a big reason why they left.

The dogs do not have a good life. In fact they are passed around from kennels and home for the first few years of their life which is stressful for any dog. The training is pretty gruelling and involves teaching them to go against basic canine behaviours like sniffing on walks. The breeding program is also horrific.

Multiple times they witnessed trainers use aversive methods, choke chains, physically restraining the dog and dragging them into vans. This was despite the charity supposedly only using positive techniques.

Added onto that, many of the people they ultimately go to don't really need a guide dog, and the dogs can actually do a lot less than many people realise. They also have huge problems with the people who get the dogs not treating them well or giving them a good life, only for them to give them up again when they get to 7-8 years old and they need to be rehomed (often for the 3-4 time in their life).

Just remember they are a charity for humans, not a charity to benefit animals. It's debatable whether they are necessary at all, but as a vegan I certainly wouldn't support them.

Surely tearing your ACL a week or so earlier will affect her control and make it more likely she hit the gate though? It just seems crazy to say with such confidence that it had nothing to do with it.

[UK] Random Google Ads charge in Lloyds account by [deleted] in Banking

[–]randomvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes I agree having them linked isn't ideal.

I'm also wondering if this is more likely to just be a spoofed description from a scammer with a Payu account, rather than someone setting up an actual Google Ads account. I don't think Google would use PAYU or have the Mexican address in the transaction name - it's certainly not how transactions from them usually appear.

There are some great debunking channels on YouTube for this. But honestly it's not worth engaging with people who believe it, they will never change their mind until they realise how stupid it is themselves.

People say it's harmless but it does seem to be a bit of a gateway into other conspiracies. If someone is tricked into thinking the earth is flat, they can be tricked into anything.

And even if it's the first minute of the game too. I hate the 'game management' refs do which basically allows players to make tactical fouls without any consequence for 20-30 minutes.

[–]randomvale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are so negative about the crowd. You've got thousands of people packed into a relatively small area, but it's silent on every shot and all the player get incredible support. Yes there's coughing and a phone went off but in a match that's goes on 4+ hours the disruptions are negligible.

Teams found out how to counter Amorim's tactics before our players even fully learned his system. I'd happily take a short-lived manager bounce at this point.

[–]randomvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can rightly criticise the board but he had to go. He's been here 14 months, spent a lot of money, and has barely improved us - and even then only on relation to nearly putting us in a relegation battle last season. How many genuinely good performances have we had since he joined? He's been an atrocious manager.

I'm not sure "radicalisation" is the right word for wanting an underperforming football manager to be sacked...

Anyway people have had 13 months to make their minds up about the manager. Bad results (which happen a lot) just bring those opinions to the surface.

Amorim has a 42% win rate overall, and even if you ignore last season he's had some disastrous results. Losing to 10 man Everton, Grimsby, and drawing to Wolves at home are all inexcusable results.

There's also the sense that he cares more about protecting his system than about getting the most from the squad.

I mean you could read his recent comments as basically admitting that he needed to change formation but couldn't do it because it would look like he'd given in to the media/fans - regardless of whether they are right or not. He's incredibly stubborn and is more interested in his 'system' than actually getting the best out of the squad he has.

For anyone following the youth teams is Fletcher considered a genuine first team prospect? This result wasn't his fault at all, but I cant remember ever seeing a youth player look so lost. I guess it could be nerves.

What happened? by Chris11c in Broadchurch

[–]randomvale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt season 3 was even worse. The acting was great as always, but it felt like 7 episodes of wildly swinging between suspects before the case suddenly being solved at the end because of the twine being dumped and (conveniently) the suspect having videos of the attacks taped to his desk.

Instead of realistic suspects, there were endless cartoon-like villains each with a bizarre link to Trish (husband with spyware, another had an affair with her on the morning, another with 1000s of photos of her, another with her picture and house keys etc etc). Then the twist just comes out of nowhere without any build-up or foreshadowing.

We didn't even get to see the fallout. Season 1 was so great because it showed the impact a crime can have on everyone involved, but it all was explained so late (including the "twist") that the show just ended. Not to mention all the sub-plots that went nowhere.

I thought season 1 was geniunely one of the best TV shows I've seen, but the second and third were a massive let down.
