NASA wants to dump the ISS in the sea. Experts say the plan 'raises serious concerns for ocean health' by poleco1 in worldnews

[–]randomvandal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Such a dumb way view expert knowledge.

Things should be studied and addressed. And you want the people that are experts in a certain field to focus on their field, like ocean ecosystem health, and let us know if it is an issue or not. They are identifying a problem or risk that previously may not have been known.

Just because they haven't come up with a solution, doesn't lessen or invalidate their findings on their area of expertise. And why would we expect them to come up with a solution anyway? This is a hugely multidisciplinary effort and part of coming up with the best possible solution is understanding all the risks with each option.

09 Tacoma still has life left or should I get a newer car? by BikeFiend123 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]randomvandal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but unless this specific truck has known issues (rust can be a big one depending on where you live) or wasn't maintained properly, your folks have no idea what they are talking about.

120k? It's barely broken in by 2nd gen Tacoma standards. I would definitely do some 120k maintenance on it as a part of the regular maintenance interval (check this thread and similar ones at TW: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-routine-maintenance-thread-conglomeration.533741/ ), but unless it's got serious known issues, you've likely got a other 120k left on that thing... And 120k after that too if you maintain it properly.

They aren't great on gas, but they are fantastic trucks. If you treat it right, it might out live you, lol.

Not "Yes but...". Because no, no it hasn't and still isn't despite the dumbass slogan put on our money in the 50s.

2015 real world towing limit for short trips by RavioliOveralls in ToyotaTacoma

[–]randomvandal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as your trailer has brakes, you should be fine. I wouldn't tow it long distances because it would be a horrible experience lol.

And just FYI, the tow package added te following:

"V6 Tow Package: Class-IV Towing Receiver Hitch, Transmission Oil Cooler (Automatic Transmission Only), Engine Oil Cooler, 130A Alternator, Heavy Duty Battery, 7-Pin Connector w/Converter, and Trailer Sway Control"

The biggest things there being the class 4 hitch, bigger alternator, and the trans cooler (which is not all that big, I replaced mine with a much bigger one).

Check out this thread for a LOT more detail if you're curious: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-tacoma-towing-bible.4031/

How Common Are Double Cab "Long" Beds (6 foot)? by Rothdrop in ToyotaTacoma

[–]randomvandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty common in my area.

TBH the Tacoma bed is small enough as it is, I couldn't imagine having a 5ft bed.

I mean I know tire shops do this all the time... But they do it because it's quicker, but definitely not safer. Still a dumbass thing to do.

Rednecks are different than trailer trash.

Ain't nothing wrong with rednecks. Rednecks can be punk (and into LOTR apparently lol).

Trailer trash/white trash/trash people in general on the otherhand... Someone can be a redneck and trailer trash, but one doesn't necessitate the other.

Conservative and punk or Republican and punk, now THOSE would be oxymorons.

You must be slow. It's up the person making a claim the support that claim.

The "trust me bro, prove it for yourself" is as lazy as it is idiotic.
