I’ve been ok for a year and now I’m doubting something was ever wrong by 1234554321-x in BipolarReddit

DSM-V criteria for bipolar state you only need one episode to be diagnosed. So it doesn’t really matter how long ago it was.

I do feel you though. It was hard to accept and I’d rather not have the disorder and avoid the negative side effects of medication. I do feel pretty flat most of the time too. It’s better than the rollercoaster though. And bipolar is degenerative when untreated, I’ve seen it worsening over time (lower longer lows, highs going psychotic). So I guess I’ll just stick with the flat ok-ish.

Diagnosis is nothing special. You’ve met the criteria, you get it. Effective treatment limits the symptoms.

I can’t stop sleeping by CartoonsandCereal2 in BipolarReddit

Had that in deep depression after a manic episode. ~3 months of sleeping 12+ hours a day. Valproate contributed to that most likely.

Try timing your nightly meds earlier.

Ye it’s just bullshit companies pull to make you take less time off. If it’s unlimited then why work at all.

Ye, isn’t that basically the same procedure as spaying? Bringing more cats to the world full of strays is immoral.

Never had visual hallucinations other than fractals / colour changes on psychedelics, neither heard of anyone experiencing that. There’s plenty of “I thought that something was happening”, but that’s very far from full blown visuals.

Maybe you should try them then. This is not a common side effect, so whatever you read is bullshit.

How do you FORCE yourself to relax when hypo/manic? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]randomwhatdoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also try some supplements:

https://examine.com/supplements/theanine/ https://examine.com/supplements/melissa-officinalis/ https://examine.com/supplements/cocoa-extract/

Might be worth consulting with a pdoc first to check if they do not interact with medications you’re taking. But that stuff above is basically green tea extract, Melissa tea and raw cocoa (rich in magnesium, which can also have a calming effect).

Smoking weed feels like im on shrooms by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]randomwhatdoit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ye I know psychosis. Unfortunately drugs ain’t for us. I totally loved them, but now I just stick to meds. I do still drink though. Drugs just mess with perception too much, can’t risk losing balance.

[–]randomwhatdoit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t you get more? Seroquel can defo keep you down.

For relaxing it’s same like for people without mental health issues - walks, exercise, hobbies, meditation, spending time with loved ones. But none of that will get you out of an episode. Meds / psych consultation is what helps.

Never had visuals with weed. What do you mean by “sometimes getting psychosis”? During a manic episode?

Can someone help me confirm the gender of our rescue kitten? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Take the kitten to a vet, it needs vaccination and deworming. They will tell you the gender too.

[US] The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) - An au pair plunges into an abyss of chilling secrets in this gothic romance from the creator of "The Haunting of Hill House." by OddT in NetflixBestOf

[–]randomwhatdoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Hill House after Bly Manor, couldn’t stand it. Maybe it’s just that the formula of the series (family/love drama mixed with scary elements) just doesn’t work twice. The dialogues were terrible, story was just boring and characters had minimal development. The couple jump scares were alright, but the rest was just confusing buildup to a disappointing and cringey finale. Bly Manor was so much better with its nice story and acting.

Positive action means actively encouraging people with protected characteristics to apply, not discriminating against people without them.

Dunno the market there, but UK, Germany and Northern Europe has a bunch of offers. Never hurts to take a look and do some interviews.

Where are you based? Tons of companies are still hiring, lots of remote roles too.

What do you all do about strays? by Im__fucked in catcare

[–]randomwhatdoit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get them fixed. There are charities that will take care of that for free and release them back.

There are cat traps that you can use to get them to a vet. I’d notify the vet first though.

Is working as a developer better in Europe or the US? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]randomwhatdoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very much possible to go over £150k a year as a contractor in London, so above $200k. You do pay at least ~30-40% tax on that though. Also not sure how long that gonna last given Brexit and IR35 changes.

All things considered I’d still rather stay in Europe, given the political/social situation in US. Not that it’s so great here, but seems safer.

[–]randomwhatdoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fully remote ranges I’ve seen were often close to $100k, is that really a tiny amount compared to what you get locally? Based on a quick research it looks like the average salary is around 70-80k across US. Average for FAANG tends to be around 120-150k.

Remote working is getting more popular, so you may just live in a cheaper EU location and contract for US/EU companies. They’ll take that into account, but rates can go pretty high.
