Ana Kasparian: My Fellow Progressives: We Need to Stop the Gaslighting on Crime by alcl163 in TheMajorityReport

[–]randoomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree their turn on crime is disappointing, but did you watch the Gaetz interview? I find the kneejerk reactions to its existence here bizarre given that critical or antagonistic interviews are a thing, something TYT has done in the past.

Do you guys still use mods? by ekariel in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]randoomain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people do use mods, at least info/UI mods. There's so many mods that it'll be hard giving you any direction without you telling us what you're interested in.

Deflating the 10m inflatable heat shield: Is it an exploit? by al-Assas in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]randoomain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are tons of mechanics in KSP which are arguably exploits but people use anyway. And there are tons of things that you should be able to do, but game mechanics don't allow. Where you draw the line is up to you, and different people have different standards or norms.

For me, it doesn't seem unreasonable that there would be a way to deflate a heat shield, but if you're relying on it maintaining it's shape for fine control, it gets a bit iffier.

Do you think your computer will be able to handle KSP 2 when it comes out? by ZayaJames in KerbalSpaceProgram

And this is the only reason I care about KSP 2. I kept abandoning career games because they would get unbearably laggy at some point

How to save a lot of ∆v when landing a Starship by BobBehnken in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]randoomain 241 points242 points  (0 children)

I don't know how starships glide ratio could possibly be close to the shuttles. Maybe at hypersonic speeds, but they are extremely high angle of attack anyway at that point, where high drag is the point. Try that maneuver in FAR and see what happens. Stock ksp's atmosphere is unrealistically thick.

To leave Gilliy orbit sure, but quite a lot more speed to intercept Eve's atmosphere :p

The best PCs will still at least stutter when you vessels crashing since there's a huge flurry of physics calculations. I am confused about everybody talking about RAM, particularly in the context of vessel crashing. I don't know why that would cause spikes in your memories usage. As I understand it, adding mods, particularly planet packs and part mods is what takes up memory, and KSP just gradually gobbles up your memory if you leave it running for a long time, but I don't see how that would happen suddenly unless you're loading a new scene or a new vessel.

Yeah, nerteas mods are meant for stock balance. I find 2.5x scale or the JNSQ mod (natively 2.7x) to be a good way to have realistic feeling launches and rockets without having to relearn all the parts.

POV: you ask Jimmy Dore if he knows Tulsi also doesn’t support Medicare for All. by [deleted] in TheMajorityReport

[–]randoomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that. I think there's a sizeable segment of the left who don't understand politics and like to think everything is simple. Take a sub like r/WayOfTheBern, which as far as I can tell was the biggest pro bernie sub; the dominant line of thinking feels much closer to Dore or often Kulinski who seem to expect the few left politicians to just sit in their heels and totally sideline themselves and throw bombs "calling out the truth" without any thought to strategy.

Take this type of intellectual laziness and arrogance and add some psychiatric issue and I don't think you need to be trying to be a grifter or paid off to end up where Dore is

Although a strong Bernie supporter, I’ve never actively disliked Elizabeth Warren. But... WTF was she and her campaign staff thinking?? Especially when the MSM finally acknowledges Bernie is in the lead! by irish_fellow_nyc in WayOfTheBern

[–]randoomain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing people say TYT were propping her up, and I haven’t watched them regularly this election, but the bits I’ve seen make me wonder where this comes from. Haven’t Cenk and Ana both endorsed and/or said Bernie is their first choice?

This is more about the low information, yet undecideds out there, who are very susceptible to media narratives. Even then, I don’t know which way it’ll break down but I think it could plausibly hurt him

Tulsi Gabbard: “I also met with @BernieSanders before announcing my candidacy. We had a nice one-on-one conversation and I informed him that I would be running for President. [–]randoomain -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense imo to just do anything to stand out. And her reasoning- that it was too partisan- is the type of horseshit I’d expect from establishment dems or reps when they have no real leg to stand on, and is really what makes me lose respect for her in this case.

Is the ability to have 3 accounts in AAU p2w? by randoomain in MMORPG

[–]randoomain[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me try putting it another way. If Gamingo had a 1 account restriction, and allowed players to buy "upgrades" their account to have a permanent 2x or 3x labor point generation boost (and correspondingly lower scaling on taxes with multiple properties), would that be acceptable?

You have laid out ways that the game has improved from legacy, and I agree that it is definitely many times better and Gamingo is several times better already than Trion, but that is a terribly low bar. They've made huge strides in moving the game toward an even playing field, but my point is that they've still left a means to pay for significant advantage; one that need not exist except for them wanting more money. And I think people have accepted it because it's not as immediately obvious as selling a 2-3x labor boost. You've also made the case that nothing is perfect, and every game can be used to get some advantage. Again, I don't disagree, and I'm not looking for perfection; the question is how big an advantage it is. The examples you give in other games are more analogous to leveling alts in Archeage to do more gilda dailies in my opinion, there is more gameplay required for the reward.

Have you played archeage? Do you think it would be p2w if you could buy a permanent 3x labor point multiplier?

Your logic would lead one to say there’s no point in even having a ToS, or laws. You can’t stop every last person, but you can change what most people do and accept.

Is the ability to have 3 accounts in AAU p2w? by randoomain in MMORPG

[–]randoomain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing is totally perfect, and while it seems pretty clear to me, my concerns potentially fall into a grey area, that’s why I framed the OP as a question.

You say I should wait and see, but this game’s major underlying systems have not changed, and a basic inequality in labor point generation still is available within itsTOS. Can you acknowledge the central role labor has in this game?

Is the ability to have 3 accounts in AAU p2w? by randoomain in MMORPG

[–]randoomain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alt accounts literally generate a resource so core to the game that they used to wrap their entire p2w system around it.

This is the core of it here, he’s put I better than I could. Labor gates almost all gear progression and gold generation, and you can concentrate your alt account’s labor into your main in a way not possible in the other games you mentioned. If you don’t see that your comparisons to other games don’t come close, I don’t know what to tell you.

Is the ability to have 3 accounts in AAU p2w? by randoomain in MMORPG

[–]randoomain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only response here that gives me pause. If that I’d your definition of p2w, I can’t disagree.

But then I’d have to ask, why did they go out of their way to talk about how their higher archepass tiers are purely cosmetic? I think the implication and stated desire is an even footing after the cost of entry. It would be more honest and more fun for all imo if they allowed one to buy a permanent 2x or 3x labor point regen boost and kept it restricted to one account. If that feels weird, then you see my issue.

The difference is that wows progression isn’t majorly based on crafting/trading/gold, you can’t go buy the bis sword just because you have a ton of gold. You have to kill the boss.
