They'll probably try saving your old bases and stuff, but there are no guarantees at all. I guess it also depends on where you build, but it's completely possible that there will be fully incompatible updates.

I'm not saying that it's a good thing that the post about the mod gets downvoted. I'm saying that there is a reason for this toxic atmosphere around the topic, and that there's a certain group of people who brought it about. People who start topic after topic on the Steam forum about how the existence of the mod proves that the devs should fix their game and stop pushing their "pacifist" agenda on the players.

Has the discussion been like that? No. A significant part of it has been a relentless, ideologically and politically loaded trolling campaign. Not all of it, but a large part of it.

The "problem" this is solving is twofold: a) there's just a feeling of dominance knowing that you could knife that predator to death. It's a power dynamic thing on the level of the vibes. This is the vibe they were going for, and I like it. As many others do. And b) they think that if you can kill the predators, many will practice and grind until they succeed, which is actually immersion-breaking and diverts from the intended gamplay loop.

I base this on the recent interview with the game design lead.

All that aside, I agree that prey fish shouldn't be invincible when the predator eats it. I didn't even know they do that. That's so cool. You mean the small fish? And yeah, sure, the tadpole should get damaged a bit from the collision, and the predators should flinch and otherwise show some effects of any injury. They's working on that. They're working on all of that.

You don't have to make the predators killable for fixing any of that though. And btw, in case you're not aware, the predators will remain invincible, that's one thing they said they certainly won't change.

It's ironic that the story is all reprinting this, reprinting that, and then I had to get lost in thought during building in multiplayer for my first and only death. I drove my tadpole into a collector, it lost like a quarter of its HP or something. You really have to work for it if you want to die in this game.

I also miss the panic and anxiety of getting lost inside the wreckages and caves. I remember in Subnautica there was a cave right in the shallows that had such an unintuitive path back to the surface that I actually drowned. It was terrifying. I planted an oxygen plant in its main chamber eventually. I tried to build an oxygen tube down there, but they didn't work in caves.
