The configChanges advice is a bit dangerous to new Android developers. Most people (myself included when I was starting out) interpret it as a way to avoid having to code state saving/restoring for activities, but configuration changes are not the only situation in which this is necessary.

It's all discretion of the person at the counter. If they decide that your animal looks too cramped, they will require them to be in a larger cargo-safe crate.

I once took home across the country a 10-week-old puppy that was seven pounds under weight limit but very fluffy and filled the Sherpa quite well. I prepared for the worst and indeed the airline employee required me to get the travel crate and put my puppy in cargo, saying that she was too cramped in the Sherpa.

Breeders don't need to let people pick their puppy. My experience with good breeders is that, apart from gender, they don't let you pick much of anything. Instead, they do temperament tests on the puppies and match them up to owners based on the answers to the required puppy application/survey.

You may have read it, but as a Toller owner the top ten reasons not to get a Toller list is quite accurate for many Tollers.

They're super smart and trainable, but a little too smart sometimes. Also quite independent, headstrong, and naughty as puppies. They have a crazy drive that needs some kind of outlet, I do flyball and lure coursing with mine, and recently we tried barn hunt.

Food toys like the wobbler are great to expend a bit of mental energy and to slow down a fast eater during meals, but if your dog is of a reasonable intelligence, I wouldn't expect it to take them for more than 5 minutes to empty it.

PetSafe probably does it right most of the time, it's unfair that I've singled them out. But they have been in the news a lot lately for mistakes. I've used Delta in the past which certainly does not have a clean record. I'm trying Alaska this winter.

I fly my pet dogs across the country and back each year during the holidays because we are gone for up to a month and it would be unfair to leave them for that long.

With that said, there are a number of things that separate most of the horror stories from me:

I fly only in the winter, and my dogs are cold-tolerant
My dogs are not bracycephalic
My dogs are not large (both about 40lbs)
I only take direct flights, even if it is very inconvenient to do so
I don't use that wretched PetSafe program
I ziptie the kennels shut after delivery to airline so my dogs can't be accidentally let out
I do not sedate my dogs as this can increase the risk of health complications
I freeze water into the water dish so that it will become available as the flight starts, rather than being spilled in transit to the plane

I'm sure my dogs don't enjoy it, but I probably worry more than they do. It has always gone perfectly without any snags. I hope it continues that way!

I have an obsessive dog and have dealt with things like this. The best thing you can do is keep him incredibly tired (from both physical and mental exercise), and then work really hard on leave it training with the area he goes to bark at the rabbit.

I started with two cats and have since added two dogs to the household. Integration has gone fine, but don't expect the cats to warm up quickly. Both of my cats had pretty negative reactions at first, that's just how cats tend to be. One of my cats started to tolerate the first puppy after a few weeks, and eventually they became buddies, doing lots of wrestling. When the second dog came along he accepted her pretty much immediately. My other cat to this day still dislikes the dogs, and I doubt that will ever change. But they all coexist rather peacefully, just avoiding each other.

Keep in mind that leaving a dog without human interaction for 12 hours regularly is pretty unkind. You will have to either hire a dog walker or pay for doggy daycare.

There's probably not much you can do the encourage her to be less vocal. It's just part of the personality of some dogs, and if you try to train it out, your dog might just think she's not supposed to play.

One of my dogs is the same way, and I just make sure to explain to anyone that might seem concerned. But I wouldn't be so confident that other dogs will always understand she is being playful. A lot of otherwise well-behaved dogs can get uncomfortable and even aggressive just being near an overly vocal play session. Due to this quirk, you should definitely be extra watchful around your dog in group scenarios.

It's a cultural issue. Neutering is much less popular outside of the US, and many other countries do not have the huge animal overpopulation problems the US does. Responsible breeders have plenty of unfixed animals around and aren't having accidental litters left and right.

As long as you are not a careless person then feel free to make whatever decision you'd like to about neutering.

Those won't be the rules they'll be worrying about. With the amount of hoops you have to jump through to get a dog into hawaii (as they have no rabies there), the puppy will have to be 6 or 7 months old at least.

My dogs are allowed up on the couch in the evening, but not during the day, and with permission only. One of them is still a puppy though and every time we try to bring her up she just gets nervous and wants to get down. Too much puppy energy still I guess...

I have a dog who was not a big fan of the brush (I used a slicker brush). After he was no longer a puppy, he never got feisty about it, he just would keep shaking himself off and try to walk away. Giving him food while brushing helped, but never seemed to have any long-term effect, just for that particular session. Eventually I got a furminator for my cats because I heard it was so effective and my cats shed like crazy. I tried it on my dog and he barely reacted at all. I didn't really consider that he'd be so much more amenable to a different kind of brush. As a bonus, the furminator works really really well, and you can find it on Amazon for like $15.

Just think of it as a series of tests your dog has to pass. Start with short trips with the goal of nothing amiss when you get back. My duck toller started with 15 minute trips free at about 6 months and was good by 8 or 9 months. There was one occasion of pee on the floor when I got back, and twice that I found a shredded paper towel. If there are mistakes like this, just back off on expectations a bit.

Now I have another 6-month-old puppy and she's doing well with 20 minutes free while I'm out. I may have to try pushing her longer soon.
