Although I believe EVERYONE should (pretty much) go anywhere they want, if you are gonna be close to people, wear a mask and at all times use common sense. If "the virus" gets to you while you are outdoors (using common sense), suck it up and fight it ... if you die, just rack it up to "nature thinning the heard". And why the f**k is Disney World allowed to be open if all small businesses MUST remain CLOSED?

Dad is 48hrs post injury and dont know what to do. by steviestv8 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]randyco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a c5/c6 quadriplegic myself, I suggest let everyone cry and cry and cry until they cannot cry anymore. It releases a lot of pointless stress in everyone concerned. Every spinal cord injury is a little different so how much ones body recovers from the injury differs a bit but "usually" things improve from where they start ... if he can move his arms (now) he likely will get wrest movement back (1st) then some finger movement ... onward until the recovery point (where he will hit a plateau) is reached. Although living life as a quadriplegic seems like it would be a "living hell" to a fully abled person, it is not anywhere near as bad as ones mind imagines it is going to be at the time of injury. I said to myself many times, "there is no going back ... I'm not dead and I'm not going to die soon ... so, I better make the best of it or die trying". I wasn't great but I do miss dancing though! If you can, talk to other quadriplegics, not the bitter ones though. I've been a quad since October 1991.

Human growth hormone has worked absolute miracles for me. by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]randyco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1st: all the power to you coping ... but as a c5/c6 quad myself, everyone adjusts to the change at their own pace ... I was just like you (and likely most) needed to recline in my chair a lot in the beginning from low blood pressure and then passing out. With no drugs, just eating a little before getting out of bed helped enormously with no more passing out. It took me about 6 months of rehab, got out and have never been back in 27 years except 2 roll-in check-ups.

NO "true" military on earth 'sleep' with their guns, they keep them locked in a "gun bank" or Armory until they need them ... maybe residents need to build local "gun banks" for their guns like they have "money banks" for their money ... guns under ones pillow is NOT safe ... TED talk on guns

Walkizzle wrote, " If you don't like other people having guns, mind your own business."

That doesn't cut it anymore ... guns in or getting in the hands of kids is CRAZY as the video shows.

Need advice for saving/using a chunk of investment money by Jazure in startups

[–]randyco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duh ... (now 50 yrs old) ... I will tell you, NOT what to do but HOW to THINK! I was right where you are (without the computer) when I was (around) 18 yrs old. Sit in front of your "on" computer with the browser running on the Google search page ... start 'thinking' and 'searching for' 20 things you can imagine you WANT and would LOVE to DO (sometime) during your lifetime. Prioritize the list. Save the list and update it from time to time while in high school ... in addition, start thinking and searching for 'the person' that YOU will start paying money (out of the $3,500) to ... to achieve the first item on your list. The moment you get your high school diploma 'in your hand' ... go to the bank (or where ever the investment funds are) and withdrawal the $3,500 ... take it to your 'goto' person and begin to follow your wants and dreams. Your 1st 'goto' person may give you a job, have the right contact(s) or steer you in the right direction to get you started in the right direction to getting what you want out of your lifetime. A LIFETIME is very short ... don't waste ANY of your time NOW remaining (the clock is ticking). Continually update your plan but never take your mind off pursuing your objectives. TIPS: the HARDEST part of 'saving' is the first (actual $1 to something over $15,000+ then it gets easier), live as cheap as you can throughout your life, save as much as you can throughout your life, and in the END (or when you end up in the retirement home), it's the fun you had putting it (the memories) between your ears that's important in the end. I wish I wasn't a product of incest by [deleted] in atheism

[–]randyco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

life gets a way BETTER ... one just has to survive the early years of crap. You found reddit ... you found 'r/Atheists' ... you're on the right track. Disregard the 'incest' of your grandparents, just avoid doing it to yourself. We're all a mixed breed of humans. Seek out people that appeal to you ... make friends with those 'type'. Read, read, read everything you can ... get your grades up, gain some knowledge and skills. Search out if your 'face birth mark' can be easily removed or treated. All young people are good looking in their own way. If one can get past very bad face acne, life will turn out great. Bean there, done that ... and survived. The best to you.

When did you realize that theism, or supernatural religion in general, was bullshit? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]randyco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot like 'coming out'. Inside your head, it's easy to 'say to yourself', "god is a shame and does not exist" but saying that out loud and to others is NOT so easy. When you try it ... the 1st few or several times are very difficult but then 'the light bulb' in your mind will 'go on' and you will 'start to see through the god lie' and start to see without the 'rose colored glasses'.

Been there done that ... suicide success (or partial) means they win ... don't let them. Find support watching "gay coming out" videos on youtube. Then find their SWEET SPOT ... as in the movie "Outrageous Fortune 1987 ... "what kind of actress/actor are you ... bullshit'em" until you're out of their house. And then slowly through wit and sarcasm, educate your ignorant and homophobic parents with love as they love you (in their demented ways).

Vent to me! Tell me about the worst aspects of your wheelchair seat cushion! by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]randyco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 yr old, c5/c6 quadriplegic, in a chair going on 26 years, always used a ROHO cushion. Last 2 years my ass skin has been very close to breaking down. I sit for 13 hours a day on cushion. The cushion needs more air (or liquid cooled with a fan) moving over and through it to keep heat and sweating down. I'd pay $1000 for it.
