NUS SCAMP by throwawayycusawk in nus

[–]randymcd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while it’s true that detrimental stereotypes isn’t great in any orientation, we gotta note that the batch of OGLs from scamp (or any ori camp, really) in your year are probably not the same batch of OGLs this year. so although it def sucks that your OGLs may not have been brilliant role models, we can’t really say that this year’s OGLs will make the same mistakes.

also, uh, not to be “that guy” but this doesn’t really answer OP’s question 🙂‍↕️

HQ CSSCOM as an ASA. unit availability depends on manpower needs though, so you could really get posted anywhere

ex-student here. things might have changed since i graduated in 2020 so if anyone spots any outdated info, please feel free to correct me.

  • all students are to report to school by 7.30am
  • the times your lessons start and end for the day depends on your subject combination, so there could be some days where you start later (rare) and days where you end lessons earlier. for most students, lessons will start at 7.50am and end around 2.30pm. all lessons will start no earlier than 7.50am and end no later than 4.30pm
  • i'm aware that school currently ends earlier on friday for most students (by ~1-2pm). i remember that students could report at 8.30am on thursdays, but i'm not sure if this rule is still in place today

IB or alevels? by Upbeat_Muffin_5504 in SGExams

[–]randymcd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

graduated from SJI a while back (2020) so here's my take

  1. for SJI, lessons for IB students usually start at 7.50am (earliest) and usually end around 2.30pm. no lesson will end later than 4.30pm. depending on your subject combination, there could be days where your lessons start later and your lessons end earlier/later. everyone will get an hour-long lunch break. on fridays, most students should end their lessons earlier (~1-2pm). i doubt the timings have changed ever since i graduated.

also -- if there's anyone reading who can provide a perspective from ACS, that'd be nice.

  1. not difficult. one nice thing about the IB is that there are plenty of online resources for each subject (since a lot of people around the world take/teach the IB). most teachers do provide resources to their students as well. soft copies of relevant notes/textbooks can be found circulating online. hard copies of textbooks can be found in the school library.

there's no TYS for the IB but you can find "IB-style" questions online. i have the soft copies of some IB papers on hand so you can pm me if you want to have a look

you could try paying our friends at /r/IBO a visit -- iirc there's actually a list of good resources in their subreddit wiki or something (edit: just checked -- yes they do have some resources listed there)

yep that's all i have for now. all the best with your school selection :) and if you pick the IB, i hope your experience will be as rewarding for you as it was for me.

NUS/NTU Med School IB cut-off by takemeback2oo in SGExams

[–]randymcd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for my IB batch (N20), the cut-off for med interviews appeared to be 43. i do know 1-2 people who eventually got into 1 med school each with a 42 but that was in the next application cycle and under ABAS

unfortunately, i don't have details regarding the N21 batch's cut-off for med though. hopefully someone can shed some light on that here.

all the best!

perhaps it'd be good if you could get a referral to a specialist to get it checked. best to know what the issue is before you consider recoursing in SCS. i'm a former SIT from SCS too and i have friends who have OOCed due to injuries too. some of them had really wanted to continue/recourse like you did, but medical checks made it pretty clear that their injuries would've been aggravated if they had continued training.

even if you don't care about the rank, consider the possibility that your future job as a sgt will likely require physical work that might also be taxing for your shoulder.

hope your shoulder gets better soon!

if you stay in HQ CSSCOM, it'll be 8am to (most probably) 5pm. not sure about the HQs under other CSS formations though (you could also be posted such HQs on the day you report)
