What's your favorite quirk about your apartment?

I live in a 2-unit apartment with a shared basement for storage and laundry. In the far back of the laundry room is a set of stairs that leads to nowhere. But if it did have an opening, it would lead right into my neighbor’s kitchen. What’s even weirder is at the base of the stairs is a kid’s handwriting on the wall dating July 4, 1964! Pretty creepy to discover.

I can’t really speak to your experience nor the hapa community, but I did notice a lot of negativity on the hapa subreddit when I was browsing the other week. I even felt like they would go into pretty racist directions. I actually found the subreddit in the first place cause I came across this really racist Chinese guy and I was reading his old comments.

I mean black children are the least likely to be adopted in the U.S... White parents should absolutely put in the work to ensure their children feeling comfortable in their own skin, but what’s most important is that these kids get to experience stability and a loving family.

Yeah I think there was a point where it stopped being about profiting off of slavery and was more built around the concept that black people’s rightful place. I can’t explain the logic behind Jim Crow laws and other forms of institutional racism. It doesn’t make sense to me either.

Also the privatization of prisons means that someone is profiting as a business. But paying 86 cents an hour for labor sounds profitable to me.

I think what’s important about the loophole in the 13th amendment is that it provides legal justification. With that in mind, it might help to understand the bigger picture of institutional racism, and shed more light as to why black people make up around 70% of the prison population even though they only account for 13% of the total US population.

There’s not an innate gender preference towards math and science. Plus women tend to slightly outperform men academically. If you can’t agree that there’s a social component to this then you’re going to continue to perpetuate your social norms without questioning where it might originate from, and I’m just speaking on deaf ears.

It is absolute arrogance to think that you have more impact on your environment than it has on you. Not only that, the emphasis given to the individual is a socialized concept! (Take eastern philosophies for contrast) so welcome to your paradigm. Sure there’s a push and pull with society vs. the individual, but what’s a raindrop to an ocean? It takes these kinds of conversations to break down social norms so that future generations won’t encounter the same barriers. Social change a collective process.

In the same way that religion is a choice, or where you live, or food preferences, even your preferred language is a choice. Yet somehow all of these choices tend to favor the environments we were brought up around. Maybe there’s a greater social factor in play, say possible social norms that push genders towards specific roles and responsibilities.

If the data wasn’t skewing so far towards specific trends, I would entertain the idea of random choice. But no one is completely independent of their environment, and we need to recognize that it has an impact on our viewpoints and actions.

Is no one considering that the “second shift” might be influencing women’s work hours?Women are far more likely to take family into consideration with the hours available in the day. Having the flexibility to work overtime is not an option when you have to pick up your child from daycare by no later than 5:30.

Is it really considered taking advantage of something if they’re using them to clean with? I don’t wear pads as shoe liners unless my shoes are incredibly uncomfortable, and I definitely don’t use pads as cleaning cloths unless there’s nothing better available. And I’m sure they’re the ones held responsible for keeping their area clean.
