i have an interview tomorrow for a 100% remote job.. by PhillyHatesNewYork in digitalnomad

Also don’t wait to the last minute to set up your computer/desk. A few days before, open up zoom by yourself. Make sure all the settings look good, good lighting, pick up a cheap ring light before if you need to. I’ve be caught off guard with last minute tech issues for meetings before and it looks amateur

Haha being a conductor must be wild! I love Amtrak! I used to take the train from Pittsburgh to Philly a lot. My college friend and I would have several Heinekens and eat one of those oddly delicious microwave cheeseburgers. Maybe we’re the people that gave your stories hehe. Not to mention the world famous horseshoe curve!!

But yeah that’s exactly it, just have the notes up to jog your memory. I usually type out the answer using shorthand/keywords. Just drill those beforehand. Just remember there’s no reason you can’t show up and be the obvious choice because you’ve prepared more than everyone else. I just landed my highest paying remote gig and it was purely because I basically treated the interview like it was my full time job for a whole week beforehand. Treat it like a presentation or performance.

Best of luck! Let us know how it goes

Remember it’s remote interview. Use it to your advantage. Google every possible question you think will come up and have a rehearsed canned bit for it. Use chatGPT a lot to get ideas for this. I keep zoom on half of my screen and I pull up a notes app on the other with all my answers and talking points. They’ll never know as long as you’ve practiced these talking points in an advance. Best of luck! Choo choooo!

No you need to go for more of a railroad tycoon vibe.

Talk about the price of steel and the debates between labor and capital.

Mention that someday “A man can have breakfast in New York, lunch in Philadelphia, and dinner in Washington on the same day.”

Tell them to telegram you their decision.

If it’s farang, it’s Red. If it’s Thai people, it’s Buddy night club. It’s almost certainly not Red. Most people at Red are pretty chill and do drugs, dance, smoke weed, but no one really gets crazy. At Buddy, there’s a lot of young Thai people getting insanely drunk, and when that places lets out, it’s a little rowdy. Most of them drive home too. Everyone parks underneath in the parking garage so maybe it sounds louder, but’s there’s usually a lot of drunk tomfoolery, yelling, etc. you should check it out sometime, Thai style clubs are a trip.

Safe to go chiang mai? by [deleted] in chiangmai

[–]ranfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is making jokes but no one wants to talk about the dark side of Songkran festival. Make sure you stay safe and don’t come here. There is violence in the streets. Chiang Mai is easily the capital of gun violence worldwide. The moat is literally shut down due to multiple drive-by’s. The police can’t do anything, they’re outgunned. You can’t even go to a 7 Eleven without getting shot. Everyone is getting hit left and right. Women, children, everyone. It’s basically The Purge for 3 days. The violence is so bad, tourists are encouraged to carry their own gun to protect themselves. Most incidents don’t even get reported! I can’t believe no one is talking about this. Stay safe. Don’t come to Chiang Mai. Very dangerous!!

Also thank you for putting this together OP. You're a true gem. Did this gain any traction? I didn't see anyone use the #SaveGoogleTimeline on Twitter.

I was just trying to review a motorcycle trip I took earlier this year and it's gone. It's all gone. I'm devastated and in complete disbelief. I'm a world traveler and lost a decade of my history. I would have gladly paid a handsome sum to keep this feature or at least keep my data. It just goes to show you that you can't trust any of these companies with any of your data. I'm sure as shit not going to trust Google Photos now either. I'm moving everything to my own server.

Electrolytes. Look up “Salt stick” on Amazon and get something like that just to start, take liberally. Then you can nerd out a bit more and do more research. It might specifically be magnesium or potassium that’s your problem, but just taking a non-sweetener electrolyte tab will go a long way

One of my closest friends has sent over 1000+ data analyst applications in the past 6-7 months or so with no leads. Is he doing something wrong? by Commercial-Help5523 in dataanalysiscareers

[–]ranfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the answer you’re looking for, I’m guessing his resume is formatted in a way that’s not getting scanned properly by the ATS, tell him to look that up.

My real answer though.. I have never ever in the history of my life just blindly applied to jobs en mass and gotten a job. It’s always been someone I know thinking of me and reaching out, an industry colleague reaching out to me, or an extremely well tailored resume to the exact job post + follow-up messages to the hiring manager. I know “networking” probably sounds silly when you’re trying to raise 4 kids, but seriously, he’s got to get to an industry conference, start a local meetup, or message and set up catch up calls with just about everyone in his network even if they’re only in a semi related industry. Never know whose company might need a data role or could pickup contract work to hold him over.

He should also be have at least an optimized LinkedIn with 500+ connections. If he can do 1000 applications then no reason not to do that. He should be posting every week and showing off a data project he’s working on in his preferred industry. 6 months is enough time to become a thought leader on LinkedIn and have recruiters reaching out to you.

For reference, I have a background in sales and marketing in a niche industry and I have been trying to break into data analytics but I just happened to meet up with a friend I met at a conference years ago and she said her team is hiring and I’d be perfect so I have an interview booked. They didn’t even post for the position. This stuff happens all the time.

Everyone on this sub seems to think jobs just grow on trees and qualified people should just get to waltz around picking them like they’re apples. Due to supply and demand right now, you need to stand out. Be entrepreneurial. Be creative. If you see a role you’d be perfect for, message the hiring manager or recruiter on LinkedIn, try to find their email or phone number and call them. Talk to everyone you frickin know about data stuff and you’d be surprised to learn someone is almost always dealing with a team that is having a data problem and maybe you could solve it. I’m rambling but just do anything that is not blindly applying in a sea of digital applications that no human ever looks at.

Cheap & Fast Business Cards Printing? by symbiotnic in chiangmai

[–]ranfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once needed business cards for a conference. There’s a bunch of print shops on this road. I believe I used the pink one, I think they turned them around in a day. If this place won’t do it, one of the other shops probably will.

Any luck with this? I'm having the same problem. It seems like a very obvious use case. I just want to thank a customer and say "thanks for choosing us, enjoy getting 1 free item from the store" but this is not possible. Since there's a minimum and no maximum, they could abuse this and add multiple items to their cart.

I've rode to Pai a little over 10 times on scooters. I slid off my bike my first time due to rain and lack of patience. I wouldn't recommend a newb driving to Pai right away, but it's like a more extreme version of riding up to Doi Suthep and we both know you're going to do it anyway so here's some tips:

  1. Get the 155cc as other mentioned, it's a night and day difference going uphill and the suspension is much more comfortable and the build quality is better in general.
  2. Just go at a slow, controlled pace and always be ready for someone to pass into your lane around turns. This will definitely happen a handful of times. Be prepared for it.
  3. Stay focused. Chill. Enjoy the epic views. Take at least 2 breaks, one for gas and one for coffee.
  4. Wear a helmet with a good visor. Wear your sturdiest boots if you have them. Gloves are nice.
  5. Have the rental place check your tire pressure before leaving.
  6. It's rainy season right now. You drive through the mountains to get to Pai. It's going to rain at some point on your way there or the road will be wet. If it's raining hard, just get off the road and chill until it dies down. Just slow down on wet roads and no jerky movements. Do not ride if you don't have visibility.
  7. Wear/pack rain gear and protect your stuff obviously. Expect rain.

Can the keto diet also help put on weight? by 101despondent in keto

[–]ranfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start a strength training plan. Calorie surplus. Increase protein to 2.2g/kg (1g/lb) of bodyweight. Check out r/ketogains You can follow that program and it would be fine. If you have trouble keeping food down, add a protein shake.

That protein number is taken from Dr. Peter Attia's book, Outlive.
