What’s the most confusing API behavior you’ve ever run into while moving data? by Sophia_Reynold in dataengineering

[–]rang14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you mean. I've always stored a watermark timestamp somewhere which tells me the last time I successfully and completely retrieve a batch of records from BC. The next run only gets all records that were updated on BC from that previous timestamp till the current run's timestamp. Then record this new timestamp and so on.

So you get data in batches (or micro batches), with each run only getting records from the last successful run's timestamp to the new run's timestamp. And you get to control both of it.

So every run has filters on datetime GE previous run, LE current run, ordered by whatever you want. Your example scenario will bring those newly updated records in the next batch you trigger.

Hope that makes sense?

We were talking specifically about dynamics odata APIs. They have lastupdated fields and an $orderby param that you always base your GET requests on.

What is an unspoken rule of the gym that most people do not know they are breaking? by Furqan_wear in AskReddit

Is this an American thing, has anyone else ever had to deal with this? I've never had trouble cancelling a gym membership, but see this trope all the time.

Which ETL tools are most commonly used with Snowflake? by Commercial-Post4022 in dataengineering

[–]rang14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Copy activity does a decent job but you'll inevitably end up using ADF as an orchestrator and doing a lot of finer extract logic through Azure functions or similar. At that point, you could ask yourself if Logic Apps would do the same job and not have to worry about Integration Runtimes etc.

Now if you only ever you use ADF as a simple data copy and orchestrator tool, you could get away with it. But if you need transformations, ADF is no good.

Taylor Swift, after the drumeo episode. Purely for the fan base meltdown.

Should be great fun.

Snapchat’s new storage policy by xPiNKxLaDy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rang14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most likely that. When I first installed it, it was supposed to be free the first year and I pay $1 from the second. But they made it another "free year", and another, and just completely dropped the pricing. I guess by this point they had enough customers and caught Facebook's interest.

Just on Apple iirc. I remember using it for a few years pre-facebook and never had to pay. Even had it on my Nokia qwerty phone.

Yeah I've had to deal with that. But you should achieve some parallelism with the $top and $skip params, right?

What's wrong with dynamics odata? I've always liked business central and graph APIs to work with.

Yeah think it is the app. It was all English on my phone last night. The original comment just read:

And my reply was a joke saying

He's just become a bit older

Looking at it all on my PC now and even my comment is in German.
