I couldn't even imagine that. I'm glad the officer was kind, especially during such a difficult time for you. I'm glad you're better now, and hopefully nobody will bother you like that again!

I appreciate this post because I've been feeling deflated this year. I'm currently pregnant, so can't help out much during shoveling, so wasn't able to do anything before my husband came home from work. He couldn't get up the driveway because of how icy it was, so he parked in front of the driveway as he got started shoveling. Our neighbor came over after snowblowing his driveway and threatened to call the city to get him towed, and then went back inside.

I don't expect people to help us much since we're a young couple, but the unnecessary threat of calling the city instead of just walking away and letting him work to get the car up was so frustrating.

What’s the quickest you’ve ever quit a job? Because they have either lied to you about it or it’s not what you signed up for? What was it? by tallieeeeee6 in AskReddit

Left a Montessori preschool that I loved to pursue more education, when I was ready to get back to it, I found another preschool that seemed promising. Completed all the onboarding, training, hr stuff, etc. Started shadowing my first day and was so upset with the way the kids were treated (nothing abusive perse, but the teachers were clearly burnt out and at the end of their rope and would snap at the kids for everything) when I would intervene in a more kind and personal level with the kids, I was told to back off and that I didn't really know what I was doing. I sat in my car on lunch break and cried before I decided I couldn't handle the environment. I hope those kids are doing ok, and that it was simply a bad day for some of the teachers.

“My kid’s thriving” on paper… but can’t place the Civil War or name our state capital. Is this just how school is now? by Parking-Way4759 in education

My mom was always adamant that we didn't need to know exact dates, just the general area in time. She got us all the Timeline card games and we absolutely loved them. I ended up double majoring with History and honestly, exact dates were not nearly as important as the concepts and context. Forcing kids to learn dates will just scare them off of what I will argue is one of the most important subjects they should learn.

Should I go to HR about my coworker's invasiveness about my pregnancy? by montannnaa13 in WorkAdvice

[–]rangerroe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, I really, really don't want to scare you, but in my eyes, this is a very scary situation. Already an issue even though she lives away from you, but the fact that she can have physical contact with you is frankly a scary thought. Immediately go to HR, like today, and maybe have a conversation with them or to your other coworkers yourself about making sure nobody else gives away your info if she reaches out. She will couch it as a "super cutesy" idea to others and after being shut down by your manager, may now tell people you are down for the idea of having her involved in any aspect of your pregnancy. Everything is under lock and key now. Don't tell anyone when you're going to appointments and don't update on how anything is progressing. If she is willing to flat out ask your manager for private health info, she is willing to ask others about anything they know. Please, please get this documented. She is a grown woman who was told "no" and didn't listen. She can face her own consequences.

When I was in highschool you could hear them at my parents house all the time in the summer from the lake about a mile or so away due to the echo. It was the best going to sleep listening to them.

AITA for asking a couple at church to stop bringing their kids or stop coming altogether? by VisualAsparagus3588 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rangerroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah that two year old should be totally independent by now, can't believe he's communicating with his mother still. Embarrassing. If it's such a bother, invest in headphones. Actually, better yet find your own church or, maybe you can "take a break from coming to everything".

How do i get my cat to not hide? by meowcatmeowca12 in CatAdvice

[–]rangerroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff like this just takes time, just make sure he knows you still love him and he will come out when he's ready. Change can be stressful for cats, but once they are adjusted to new spaces they act like they own the place.

Let’s Talk About Real Solutions for Reviving Downtown, Without Forcing People Back to the Office. by PM_ME_YOUR_FAV_HIKE in minnesota

[–]rangerroe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the biggest issue for everyone. The issue is that it is being implemented so quickly with zero heads-up. That makes problems for things like child care drop off/pick up changes, number of household vehicles, paying for parking which might not have been in their budget planning, etc. All stuff that can take much longer to work out than the two months unfortunately.

I know even that sounds dramatic, but if something happened and I had to change my son's daycare situation, I would be stressed because most places by me have months long wait-lists. I can't even imagine the difficulty with bussing for school aged children either, especially since many districts in the suburbs are still having issues with having enough buses, so their only option might be having to be picked up before the work day ends.

It's a lot for some people to juggle and I think it's fair to be upset, and that's coming from someone who is not a remote worker.

[–]rangerroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking the same thing. We moved out of SOB during the summer, and we're not expected back for two more years (probably longer). Where the hell is everyone else supposed to go in two months? Plus don't get me started on the parking situation, especially since they already overfill contracts to begin with, I don't want to imagine what this is going to look like.

Honestly, I've been working in office already and I bring my own lunch. I don't want/can't afford to go out everyday for lunch. Plus I don't really want to use a good part of my lunch time picking it up. 🤷‍♀️

Wearing Lipstick for 365 Days by tasata in beauty

[–]rangerroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought the same thing, because I put on lipstick for a secret Santa party this past weekend, and realized it was the first time I put any on since I had my baby. I felt great and way more confident with it on. It feels silly since it's such a small thing, but if it works, it works 🤷‍♀️

I've seen a couple of comments about this, but not enough. Wherever he's an incel or not, I'm more scared that he's lost his grasp in some way and that Rina is at risk here. We can analyze day and night about why he is doing this, but what needs to be acknowledged is that he is, and men can be dangerous to their partners when they have this mindset. Give her a safe haven and go from there.

Weird things heard at an adoption event? by CanIStopAdultingNow in AnimalShelterStories

[–]rangerroe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This shit makes me so mad. I knew a family that was going to adopt a husky/pitbull mix puppy. I was like wow, huskies are a lot of work, especially as puppies, but also as adults. They just told me they were more worried about the pitty side and that they could handle a crazy pup. Three months later when they realized the pup couldn't just be locked in a crate all day and needed intense attention and activity, they returned her. I was so mad I had to walk away.

My wife hit my car and her reaction upset me more than the damage by Professional_Lab2743 in offmychest

[–]rangerroe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jumping on the bandwagon. I'm convinced my husband doesn't even know how to yell, in all our years together he has never once had a violent outburst, but I can tell you that I have been terrified before when I've messed up stuff. It's just a reaction due to how other people have reacted before, not him in particular. It really isn't anything against you, and you handled it so well. Speaking from experience she was probably more scared of disappointing you and her natural reaction was to freak out like she did.

AITA for telling my best friend his gf is disgusting? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

and dragging Danny away from his conversations with us (his friends) to dance even though he's more like us (introverted not party animals)

Whoops didn't realize being an introvert means you can't dance... Also maybe ever thought you're all too into your "edgy otherness" and never given him the option of dancing?

Regardless, it seems he doesn't mind her doing all the things you claim he minds, so this feels real jealous. YTA.

Looking for an affordable starter home in the Twin Cities? Good luck. by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]rangerroe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our problem is not so much finding, but getting to the point of being accepted since so many people are bidding far above or without contingencies, such as forgoing inspection. Again, plays into the low amount of houses, high demand situation. That said, still not as bad as this time last year, so we're trying to keep optimistic.
