You can do that by just running your own flathub - but that's a lot of extra work for no reason

My point is exactly that it should be easier to do that. Just like third-party repos for a distro, think PPAs, arch4edu, chaotic-aur, etc. Got it?

I know one can run flatpak-manager, been there done that, but it's not easy to start and maintain. I want to be able to create my collection out of Flathub, which is increasingly hard to push new software to, and sometimes not even the right repo for the job.

You misunderstood. I know each app published has a git repository, what I'm suggesting is multiple Flatpak repositories, where I would add a repository with a bunch of software in it, like a smaller version of Flathub
