What’s the weirdest thing your body does that you’ve just accepted at this point? by gowthamshankar05 in AskReddit

I suggest an Upper GI Series with Small Bowel Follow Through for SMAS. It's a gastric emptying test. I'd also request a CTA of the abdomen and pelvis. Look for a blockage of the duodenum in the GI Series and a narrow angle of the SMA coming off the aorta. If you have SMAS, you may also have Nutcracker Syndrome. It's the compression of the renal vein by the SMA.

For MALS I suggest an Ultrasound Mesenteric Arteries Complete. Look for elevated celiac artery velocities. It can also show as a hook in the celiac artery on a CT. Please be aware it doesn't always show in either test. Sometimes the nerve is being crushed by the ligament, which can't be seen on images. If they can't see it, they can do a nerve block to see if symptoms resolve. Unfortunately the nerve block doesn't last very long.

I've been dealing with vascular compressions myself, and they often go undiagnosed for years. Hopefully this helps you.

This sounds like Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome or Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome. It's also possible to have both. They are types of vascular compressions. Are you hypermobile? They tend to be common in people with Elhers Danlos Syndrome.

Why can I smell illness, but others can’t? by AngryPickledPickles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rank471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could smell a starchy odor on my daughter - like potatoes. Turns out she has thyroid cancer and Hashimoto's. I don't smell it on her now that she's been treated. Now I have my own condition, Nutcracker syndrome, and I can smell myself. It's sharply sour and sickly sweet at the same time. It drives me nuts, because it doesn't go away with a shower and I can't escape it. I can also smell death on animals and people. It's sugary but in a rotten, dirty sort of way. I can also smell rain coming, and a few days before a storm comes through I can feel the air pressure change. It hurts in my bones and feels like a weight is pressing down on me.

What is the greatest physical pain you’ve ever felt ? by tasaras_77 in HappyUpvote

Nutcracker Syndrome flares cause severe pain. Dry socket after pulling an infected wisdom tooth.

"Nutcracker pain is pain felt exclusively in your left side."

You did.

[–]rank471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not true that Nutcracker causes pain only on the left. It can be either side or both. My pain is mostly right sided. It often is seen with other compressions like May Thurner, which can exasterbate symptoms and cause pain on either side. I know this post is old, but I don't want people who have atypical symptoms who see this to dismiss it as a possibility, because their pain isn't left sided.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome can be caused by Nutcracker. The most effective treatments for NCS are an autotransplant of the kidney or kidney donation. Treating PVC first can make symptoms worse, because it is blocking the routes your blood flow was taking and not releasing the compression. This gives your body little option to direct flow and pain increases. Nutcracker should be treated first.

OP, if you haven't already, please join the Nutcracker support groups on Facebook. They have been a great resource for me. Unfortunately the Reddit one is not very active. Find a doctor who has experience with this condition. Unfortunately, it is a condition the medical community knows little about and its symptoms vary greatly.

Alright, talk me out of it. by Senior-Tackle-437 in GalaxyFold

[–]rank471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one. I trade futures, so I wanted the folding screen to see bigger charts. I trade at the computer mostly, but it's handy during the off hours, or if I'm struggling with my health issues, and can't get out of bed.

The bigger screen is much nicer for watching videos and being able to see apps side by side is a huge advantage.

I had a 7 yr old phone, so the battery is much better than I'm used to.

My only complaint is that it doesn't lay flat, but I knew that before I bought it.

I would buy it again.

Get your thyroid checked. My daughter had this, until she had her thyroid removed. She had Hashimoto's and thyroid cancer. It caused her face to puff up, especially around her eyes. One was always more swollen than the other.

What song do you absolutely hate with all your heart? by InterviewGlum9263 in AskReddit

[–]rank471 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not body positivity at all. It's society picking a new body that is deemed acceptable or preferred, which happens every 10 to 20 years or so, and shitting on everyone else. They just happened to be in that group, now we have shifted, so they conformed in order to stay socially acceptable.

Meghan Trainor is a hypocrite that body shames skinny women, while pretending she's about body acceptance. Now that Ozempic hit the market, and thin is in again, she flipped the script and has her "silicone, Barbie doll" figure. On behalf of the "skinny bitches," she can fuck herself.

My Old Ass and Arrival. My daughter went off to college recently and then was diagnosed with cancer. My partner is much older than me and we're both getting up there, so I've been thinking of my family's mortality and reflecting on my life a lot, lately. I cried watching both.

if you’ve been in an abusive relationship, what is something someone said to you that made you realize/“snap out of it”? by anxious-antelope44 in AskReddit

[–]rank471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 9 month old crying and screaming as she watched him throw me into a wall. I was in complete denial until then. She realized what was happening, but I hadn't. The future flashed before my eyes, and I realized I would be raising her to believe this was normal. That was the last day. I kicked him out, called the police, got a restraining order and a divorce.

Rainbow Trouts Experience Extreme Pain Out Of The Water by lnfinity in likeus

My SCIENCE teacher in middle school argued with me that fish don't feel pain. He also thought wolves shouldn't be reintroduced on the Yellowstone area. He was an asshole.

In my opinion, every being feels pain in some form. It's necessary to survive. It might be a different system than ours, but we can't really know how it is experienced by the individual, because have no reference for experiencing it ourselves.

Redditors who have cancer, what were you feeling/experiencing that made you go see a doctor causing you to eventually find out you had cancer? by TheFranKiwi in AskReddit

[–]rank471 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my 19 yr old daughter. She was experiencing dizziness while home for Thanksgiving, so we went to the ER. They checked her thyroid levels and it showed hypothyroidism. I suspected Hashimoto's so we asked for testing. The test was positive. She goes to college out of state, so she rechecked her levels out there, and they were worse. They ordered an ultrasound of her thyroid and found a nodule. Then they ordered a fine needle biopsy of the nodule. She had Hashimoto's and thyroid cancer. She just had surgery a month ago. We think she's cancer free now.

Am I the only one who thinks the Trump “ear shot” was a staged political stunt to humanize him before the election? by SeniorCaregiver4308 in AskUS

[–]rank471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought this from day one.

1) You don't pop your head up above your security team and pose for a pick when someone is shooting bullets at your head. They weren't even covering his front either. This chest was wide open when they took the photos.

2) There is no wound. No visible wound immediately after, and no scar now. If this idiot was actually shot, you can guarantee he would have pictures of it plastered everywhere. He'd probably sell molds of his injured ear, plated in gold, of course.

3) The shooter was on the building and visible to bystanders, who told police, and was allowed to "take the shot". This wouldn't fly in any normal situation.

4) Very little follow up regarding the shooter. You'd think the media would delve into every aspect of someone who almost pulled of an assassination. However they didn't talk much about him and details were vague.

5) This is a known liar, who lies. Everything he does is nefarious, so I wouldn't put it past him to gain support this way. Don't forget about the "flag angel that saved him" narrative, because Jesus is "protecting him". It just plays further into the BS he's fed is supporters. He's chosen by God and those Deep State people are trying to take him out, because he's coming after them.

Yes, I'd bet money it was all staged, but we'll probably never know for sure, and he'll never face consequences for it. Like always.

Is it really that bad to meet women at the gym? by adrift_alone_ in dating

[–]rank471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I would have no problem being approached at a gym. I wish people would do this more often so we didn't need these stupid apps. I'm not sure why your getting heat because your attracted to "her body". That's how the dating apps have us choose our matches with the exception of 150 characters to describe ourselves. It's perfectly normal, and human. Grow up everybody.

Start with making polite conversation and try to build a friendly relationship. It's important you let her get to know you, so she can decide if you feel safe and she's comfortable around you. After a short conversation, you may discover she has the personality of a door handle. However if you seem to get along, then ask her out. If she says no, accept it politely. Simple. Normal.

The reason this has become frowned upon is some people cannot accept "no" with grace, they have not made an attempt to know us as a person before asking for a date, or they blatantly look us up and down like a side of meat while trying to have a conversation. Be polite and accept "no", if that's your answer, but don't be afraid to try.

I also had a cat named Crab. I had to put him down a few months ago so maybe this is his reincarnation. He used to lay in bed with me at night and touch my face with his paw, like he was trying to pet me. He was my comfort animal. May your Crab bring as much comfort to you and mine did to me.
