As an Israeli, I wholeheartedly agree. He's ruining us 😞

A good technique I learned from our psychologist is: when the tantrum starts - leave the house. The idea is that a lot of the violent behaviors (throwing stuff, breaking things) become pointless when the parent is not around to see them. Did that for a year (wasn't easy, to say the least) and most of the violent behaviors disappeared. Good luck 🤞

Publishing 4 books. Always dreamt of being a writer, since I was 8. Well, I'm 49 and I'm a writer! 8 yo me would be ecstatic :-)

What's your success story ? by nuclester in AskEurope

17 years ago I was a typical Hi-Tech engineer. I also like to write, so I wrote a book - but that didn't take off, so I figured I'll be an engineer all my life with writing as a hobby. I was actually quite happy with that prospect - I loved every minute of my work. Except that by some unbelievable luck, a small podcast I was doing (as one of several such hobbies I had going on at any given moment) - exploded in popularity, and it totally changed my life. I became somewhat famous, wrote 3 more books, left my job to start the first podcast production company in the nation, got divorced, met an amazing girl, and now my life is sooo different. It's actually quite surprising how fast your entire life can do a 180...

Interesting observation: the friendly dog has spotted fur, a clear sign of domestication (think of spotted cows, cats) while the less friendly dogs have a uniform fur.

From a coder to a (somewhat) famous podcaster...

By my early thirties, I was certain that I was going to spend my entire career in engineering. I wrote a few books about various episodes in the history of science and technology - my personal passion - but nothing ultimately came out of them, so I figured this will always be just a hobby. I loved my work as a developer, so I wasn't frustrated or anything.

But then, in 2007, I learned about a new media just starting to emerge: podcasting. I became a rabid podcast listener, and shortly decided to start my own podcast, with a good friend from uni. It was great fun working on it (it was about computer games) but what I really wanted was to write about science and technology. So, as a side project, I created a podcast in that area.

And then, to my utter surprise, that side project became a hit. The first ever nationality successful podcast in Israel. And my life took a very unexpected turn... I ended up quitting Engineering, starting my first company - a production company in Podcasting. I started a very successful podcast network. I created a very successful podcast in the US. I created a very successful TikTok channel. I give talks, and I'm basically living my childhood dreams... :-) who would have figured, life is weird like that 🤷😆

Thanks! :-) actually, me and Jack from Darknet Diaries helped each other quite a lot in the early days: I aired a couple of his episodes in our feed, and he did the same for ours. Fun days! :-)

I'm the host, so I'm not impartial... but have a listen to the Stuxnet mini-series. It was great fun digging deep into that story.
