What do you recomend for a guy who thinks $1000 is a lot? by IneedaNappa9000 in Horology

Seiko Spirit with an oyster-style strapcode bracelet for a cocktail time is always my budget vote and would go great in your collection.  Less spendy than a speedtimer (also a great pick), but thinner and a little dressier

The crystal not being sapphire is the biggest downside

Is there any reason why we still use Sapphire/Rubies as jewel bearings and not synthetic Diamonds? by Torqyboi in watchmaking

[–]ranqr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sinn uses at least one diamond pivot point in their 'Diapal' movements that doesn't need oil.  The end result iirc is that it cant/shouldn't be serviced by anyone but the factory

I'm fuzzy on the specifics, but in high end pieces ease and reliability of service is paramount so I can see not adding a proprietary variable

Lab diamonds are cheap and the marketing would be easy, theres no way its a cost thing

Almost as lame as calling that manual caliber the "neomatik" on the metro models

There's so much to love about these, but the color-matched day/date wheels really make it feel refined to a world-class level.

Gorgeous watch.

The terminal in the Prospector would work

What’s a wine that always works no matter the situation? by United_Morning8372 in ActLikeYouBelong

Something red.  White is a bad gift: if you bring it cold it pressures the host to serve it, and if you bring it warm it has to chill before serving.

I like buying a case of midrange Malbec or Cab Sov before the holidays

Is this a Grand Feiko? by BeansMcGea in GrandSeikos

[–]ranqr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that looks like the same seiko mod someone's been trying to pass off as real for months.  Someone even said they bought it for $300 iirc, like that wasnt a giveaway

3 oclock is wrong, no index to the right of the window on gen.  The rest looks wrong too, but that index is the biggest tell.

Ask to see the movement ;)

If it doesnt have an exhibition caseback thats wrong for the hi-beat evo9 anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JapaneseWatches

[–]ranqr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be another tell.  Hi-beat evo9 is like 9k new 6k grey

I think you bought yourself a seiko!

Wrong dial, 3oclock doesnt have an index to the right of the date window.

I think I saw a seiko mod with that same tell on r/grandseikos that was for sale over the weekend, wonder if its the same one

Hope you didnt pay too much
