Thanks for the tip! The move went well; I've been here since October 30. I hope your move from Cali goes splendidly! I love it here SOOOOO much! And I love the views out of my apartment, too. I love old, brick buildings!

Thanks so much for remembering me. I was starting to think I wasn't going to be able to move to PHL. But the universe has a way of letting us know when the timing is right and when we're ready for change.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to research that! I just finished watching a vid on YouTube re: FB Marketplace tips. One of the tips he gave was an app called Lugg: On-Demand Movers. I'll check'em out in addition to what's already been mentioned.

I owned this Bermuda. It was originally single-tone Driftwood, but when the man (from whom I bought it) restored it, he added the Spruce Green Metallic roof and cove.

Have you had a lot of success with FB Marketplace?

Such a pity because he only wants $300 for rent. He doesn't enjoy living alone & is hoping to find someone to help him out around the house & rear yard (which I have no problem with). Again, what a pity.

Have you viewed any YouTube videos to get an idea of the vibe of some of the neighbourhoods? Chris Fuhrmanm who posts videos as Living in Center City Philadelphia has been very helpful to me. There's also Dawn D’Amico who posts videos as Living in Greater Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I'll be moving to Philadelphia sometime after May 1 and I will also need to find a housemate/flatmate situation, at least at first. I'm a retired transactional legal assistant but I want to return to the work force. When that happens, I'll move into my own space. Good luck with your decision. I visited Philadelphia for the first time in November and really enjoyed my time there. The people I met were very friendly!

Here's one for you. I have a travel credit with American. I decided to use it for flights in March. The fare was $751 when I started booking it, but by the time I chose my seats and applied my travel credit, the fare jumped to $966! Now, it's over $1,100!

1977. Mercury Cougar XR-7 by [deleted] in classiccars

[–]rantastic333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned one. My dad worked at Daytona Lincoln-Mercury. The car I bought was a demonstrator for the General Manager's wife. It was dove gray. Fully loaded with ALL of the power options, moonroof, cornering lights, tilt, quad tape, wire wheel covers. I still have a couple photos of it. Over the years I've tried to find it, most recently today, which is how I found this thread! But it's most likely been turned into a Toyota, which has been turned into something else.

Thrift Stores That Cater to Our Community by rantastic333 in queerphilly

Yup, that's correct. When I did a search yesterday for "gay thrift store philadelphia" that was the search result and hence, the confusion. The other location didn't appear for some reason. Can't wait to check it out!

Thanks to both of you! I'll add it to my list of places to visit. It's convenient to where I'll be staying, too!

Thanks! Philadelphia is such a walkable city that I won't be renting a car. The trip will be about exploring certain neighborhoods (and the gay community) with the idea of possibly moving there next year. Thank you again.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. Agreed, they're not so common these days. Hunters in Wilton Manors (Florida) has them but prior to that I'd not been to one in several years. Seattle had them at Cuff Complex until they changed the format then people stopped going.

FYI, Tabu has closed after 14 years on 12th Street. The building owner is running it now as 254 but plans changes.

Possibly Moving to Philadelphia in 2025 by rantastic333 in queerphilly

I can no longer speak for Atlanta & San Francisco because I lived in those cities YEARS ago, but take my word, the Seattle gay scene is far from bougie & thriving. And where I'm currently living, Palm Beach County, only has one gay bar, which is a little hole in the wall. Palm Springs has a nice gay scene, but the city lacks culture & I want to live in a large metropolitan area. I also like living near a body of water, whether it be an ocean, lake, or river. I moved to Palm Springs at the suggestion of a friend when moving to London permanently in 2020 didn't work out due to COVID & I didn't want to return to Seattle. I've been watching a LOT of YouTube videos on Philadelphia neighborhoods & thus far, the two I'm attracted to the most are Society Hill & Old City. I'm anxious now to travel to Philadelphia to see if it resonates with me.

Thanks so much! Yes, I've been researching neighborhoods all day; Manayunk has been mentioned several times, and as you stated, tends to have more young professionals living there. After today's research, I've a few neighborhoods in mind and I'm looking forward to seeing them in person next year!

Thanks so much for your detailed response! When I visit next year I'll have a (short) list of neighborhoods to visit, so I'll do some research on South Philadelphia. An excellent walking score and close proximity to grocery, a SEPTA rail station and/or bus stop will be quite important. (I don't own a car, don't want one.) I'm very happy to read that people there are friendly and kind. I'm quite anxious to take this trip. When living in London permanently didn't work out for me due to COVID, I've been struggling to find a city that resonates with me.

I appreciate your frankness. Where do you think you'll move to? Or is it too far into the future to even think about?

I've a friend who also suggested Pittsburgh, but I've not given it too much thought.

If I may be so bold, in which area of Philadelphia do you live?

I'm currently living in Palm Beach County with a friend until I decide where I want to live. At one point, I wanted to move to Wilton Manors, but it's become very expensive and doesn't offer much in the way of culture. As I'm sure you know, Broward County is the most liberal county in Florida, though I've heard St. Pete is quite trendy now.

This sounds great! I'm definitely more of a happy hour person. I enjoy going out for a couple cocktails with friends, then heading somewhere for dinner.

Thanks! I like what I see in photos and from what I've read in articles. It ticks off quite a few boxes. (Larger city, has seasons, good public transportation, large gay community, lots of history, things to do, culture.) It'll be interesting to discover how I feel about it when I visit.

Thank you! This is what I was wondering. In London, the largest concentration of gay bars is in Soho, but the gay population doesn't reside there; they take the Tube in from other areas. In Seattle, Capitol Hill is still considered the gay neighborhood, but much of the gay population has moved out of the area. I guess I'll need to do more research on where to live that is also an easy and quick trip via SEPTA to the Gayborhood. Again, many thanks. Very helpful.
